Show ardell hyatt writes about deseret club A letter received by the times during the week form mr ardell hyatt son of mr and mrs freeman W hyatt former residents of farolan and now living in long beach cach calif will be of interest to many of our readers we appreciate hearing from ardell his letter follows I 1 am writing this letter to tell you about a new club that was recently organized at the long beach junior college this club is being sponsored by the latter day saints church the church authorities are predicting that southern california may some dey diy have as many active members at tending church as salt lake city therefore they have decided on a plan of organizing these clubs in various colleges throughout southern california the main purpose of this club is to keep mormon mornion students alir gospel while attending college and to promote a feeling of goodwill among one another the of binl ali 1 name of the organization js S the deseret club and membership is open to all students pre fering the mormon religion the club is instructed by dr byron doan and it meets every friday afternoon dr doan is a former utah man who obtained his doctors degree at the university of southern Cali california lornia and who was appointed by the church authorities ties to instruct the various deseret clubs the work itself will more or less parallel that of the seminaries and church institutes located in utah membership is composed mostly of former utah girls and boys prid find also of girls and boys still residing in utah who are at tending school here there are at present approximately members in the club we are all very enthusiastic about this club and appreciate the opportunity we have of being members sincerely ardell hyatt |
