is a long way from being through with tournament golf im going to play in tournaments again an and d im going over to great britain to take an other shot at the british open hagen said but im not going to play until I 1 feel that I 1 am ready when that time comes ill play and I 1 believe ill go as well as I 1 ever did that is if I 1 get a weather break im no you walter hagen know and nothing arec wrecks ks my golf game like rain or snow during a tournament thousands of 0 golf bugs will hope though perhaps skeptically that hagen can make a comeback the old master started winning tournaments a long time ago in 1914 he won the national open repeating in in 1919 ile he captured the western open in 1916 21 26 27 and 32 in 1916 he won the metropolitan open duplicating the performance in in 1919 and 1920 and as regards another try at the british open he should do all right iles hes had plenty of practice winning it in 1922 24 28 and 29 the canadian open crown fell to him in 1931 hagen contracted malaria last year during a big game hunting expedition in africa he has had a long rest and has regained much of his lost strength during his recuperation cupe ration he devoted his time to designing and building new clubs at one time he stated that lie he was through with tournament golf that hed putter around the course in a friendly game or two but was through with competition now he declares he made that remark in order that friends would not insist on his playing when he was not in shape spoke the truth he said when he remarked that our american courses are softened up for the tournament players its a fact that with greens as soft as the tournament players want them you can stop a midiron shot dead without fear of it rolling over then too we have our greens so targeted that you can shoot at them as you would a coney island pistol range baseball schools IT T HAT comparatively new and rapidly growing institute of education uca tion the baseball
