| Show diphtheria CASES SHOW INCREASE IN THIS STATE more aloro than twice as many eases cases of diphtheria have been reported to the state board of health in the first ten months ot at 1937 than during the entire year ot of 1936 according accordine to a letter released today to all physicians in the state over the signature ot of dr william mckay director of the division ot of communicable muni cable disease control dr me xay kays s letter stressed the further tact fact that the disease this year Is caused by an organism ol of very high virulence which means that this Is the same type ot of diphtheria germ which made the disease so severe in earlier years ane letter made an appeal to doctors to encourage children ot of all their patients to be inoculated immediately with given in two or three doses one month apart where children have been inoculated previously arith one dose ot of alum precipitated they should receive another inoculation now bow according to dr mckay it lias has been demonstrated that one inoculation provides immunity ordinarily tor for only one year to eighteen months dr mckay says whereas the two inoculations ot of alum precipitated or three inoculations ol of untreated provide immunity for a much longer period tor for life in most instances all parents in the state are ad ased by the state board ot of health to lo have immunized non children taken to the family physician at once tor for their inoculations against ap atheria and physicians physician s are urgently requested to keep an accurate record of these immunizations so that they can become a part ot or tire the permanent records in the publia health districts parents can md aid health authorities and also the tamly ramly physicians in this matter by re niang the physician about the re zord at the time ot of the the extreme urgency of every possible precaution being taken a galust the spread ot of this dangerous disease of childhood was stressed today by dr J L jones state beaith h commissioner who pointed aut the fact that there are at the present time more than fifty clinical cases of diphtheria in emery and carbon counties alone dr jones gives assurance that the stalo board ot of health and all district health authorities will cooperate in every possible way with public officials and citizens in an et eort efort to bring this disease under control as promptly as possible |
