Show BEDTIME STORY FOR CHILDREN by THORNTON W BURGESS AN EXCITING MINUTE H HIS 11 LONGEST work fast lives live a whose wits nor stop until unta the dangers past everyone of the little people on the green meadows in the green forest and around the smiling pool knows that this Is true it Is those with the quickest wits who have the longest lives almost every day everyone of them has to depend on his wits to get him out of danger unexpected danger there time tor for thinking he must act first and do this thinking later such times way may come to you and to me but they are not likely to come often we go days and days and days without meeting any real danger but with the little people it Is different right night when they think themselves safest they are likely to liae hate to use their wits and to use them quickly to save their lives that Is one reason why we should do all we can to help them and protect them and never give them reason to fear ear us now it seem possible that there was the least bit of danger for anyone as buster bear swam about in the pond of paddy the beaver that hot summer afternoon it was as quiet butter buster bear was splashing through the rushes on the other side of the pond and the air was filled with ducks and peaceful there as a place could possibly be then along came a mischievous ch little breeze and carried the smelt smell of farmer browns doy boy to bus ter bear swimming out there in the pond that seem like much for farmer browns boy possibly have hurt buster bear it if he had wanted to and he want to do anything of the kind but when buster bear was a very little cub lie he was taught that man Is not to be trusted and Is a creature to be feared the only one in fact to be afraid of buster never had got over that fear so the instant buster caught the taint smell of farmer browns boy his wits said get away from here as quickly as you can I 1 this Is no place tor for youl that Is the dreadful man smell get ashore at the nearest place and run buster stop to think he turned and made for the shore ri right bt where paddy the deaver beaver and the quack family were hiding biding among the rushes now they knew perfectly well that buster bear coming on oil purpose to hurt them they knew he know that they were there but that help any if one of his bis big feet landed on one of them bus bug ter bear was brighte frightened tied and now they in their turn were frightened Bu buster fright was needless and foolish but theirs was not you see they knew by the wily way he was coming that he going to be polite and ask them to get out of his way no ko sir buster was ka 9 too frightened to be polite he be was in too much of a hurry the wits of paddy the beaver worked quickly they always do he have to stop to think to dive ile he just dived without any thinking and by the time he could do any thinking he was safely out of the way of buster bear at the first splash buster made as he headed for the shore the quack family started to swim out of the way but buster bear was waa coming too fast for them to get out of his way in that manner mr quacks wits just opened his wings and sent him up into the air like a rocket he stop to think to fly lie he simply flew mrs quack did the same none thing and the ten young quacks quack no now almost as bl big as their parents like dutiful children followed it all happened in just a little min ala ute it seemed to farmer drowns crowns coy boy one minute everything was as quiet and peaceful as could be and the next buster bear was splashing through the rushes on the other side of the pond and the air was filled with ducks fly ing in all directions and quacking with fright it was n very exciting minute and just to add to the excitement F farmer armer browns boy stood up aa and yelled that yell seemed to double buster bears speed the mud anil and water flew as he dashed through the rushes to the shore and disappeared in the green forest running as if he be never would stop in no time he was quite out of sight but farmer browns boy could still hear him crashing its his way through the green forest then once more everything became quiet and peaceful farmer drowns browns boy washed the mud from his face and neck then he bid and waited patiently presently mr quack came on whistling wings and flew twice around the pond seeing no one he dropped down on the water with a splash and then quacked loudly at once mrs quack and the young quacks appeared and soon they were busy talking it all over 13 by TW BuriM service |
