Show city menaced by na flood dangers says marshal conditions which prevail at tin gravel trap and water division south ot of this city are arc a grave menace lii ill case of flood says clity city marshal harrell dalton dallon who sees in tho the sit nation there a right good chance foi a destructive flood to come dowl through the city since the gravel trap was bull there several year ago and parti la in the last two years t r channel has been cut which would direct a large flood right at the bank of the trap where here it is the weakest and where it if a break oc burred it would direct the force of the flood right into tile the city moreover he says the trap has collected gravel to an extent that it has filled up the original channel which would have carried the current into the break water and has bull built up the trap until it is much higher than the channel used to be mak ing the condition even more menacing the marshal Is very much exercised over the condition lie he points out i tway way fy ay which with very little expenditure much ot of the damage might be eliminated by diverting the force of floods toward the hill instead ot of toward the flimsy gravel bank and the city the fields and the city are both responsible for the condition he be says and should unite to correct it though the city council has evidenced a willingness to assume its share of 0 the job in correcting the condition the fields have shown no inclination to do anything and as a result nothing Is being done the officer calls attention too to th the danger ot of both city and fields being left led without water in case ot of a hood flood thru failure allure to make needed repairs at the diversion dam which diverts the stream from the breakwater ile he thinks it Is very important that mesa meas ures be taken now beloro a flood takes the dam out and incurs incura a much greater expenditure tor for getting it back in the officer blames the fields lor for lack of action here also incidentally he points out too that the diversion dam has gone down at the will whitney corner but says that only the fields are arc concerned with that in case the upper dam were washed out however the fields could not recover their water at the whitney corner go ag they have previously done FT |
