Show W I 1 gurr curr appointed to city win J gurr was appointed on tuesday night at the regular meeting of the city council as a member of that body to till fill the vacancy occasioned casio ned by the death of clarence richards ry by reason of this appointment till gurr automatically becomes chairman ot of the streets and sidewalks committee and a member of several other committees commett com mitt 0 the council superintendent N J T barlow and james C robinson of 0 the school board met with the council and ar lived at an understanding relative to rental for the library during the three months it was housed in the school house A B matheson atheson Af of the american legion met with the council and asked for a loan of 76 75 to buy suits tor for the junior baseball boys promising to reimburse the city during the summer from the proceeds of 0 dances in the legion pavilion he the council was favorable to the proposition but were in doubt as to whether the city has available funds favorable action was therefore conditioned on the findings of the city recorder after a check of the city accounts al F grames met with the council relative to leasing or buying the old rex theatre which the city recently acquired title to through tax deed the matter was referred to the auditing committee of which arthur joseph is chairman to deal with mr brames who wishes to remodel and convert the building into an auto repair shop city recorder R af benson reported that under the councils instructions he had redeemed two pieces of property before the may tax sale by the county at a cost of about in order to protect the cites lien on them tor for special im taxes the rex theatre building was one ot of those pieces the sexton reported that the city hearse had been painted during the week and is ready for use presenting a much improved appearance this report started a brief discussion ot of funeral costs during which it was stated that from 40 to 60 can be saved on a burial by using the cites coach and puk purchasing hasing the casket locally over what Is charged by outside concerns mr anthony paxton who has had charge of the library grounds reported that he has been using his own lawn mower there and that he has worn it out he asked that the city either purchase a new one or help to repair his it they wished the lawns mowed any more the council decided to help repair his big mower for or this season with the thought that possibly a power mower may be necessary another year if proposed lawns on the same block materialize councilman arthur joseph suggested that it if citizens are to use electric power to any extent tor for cooking or otherwise the cites power rates must be revised and it was tentatively decided that the council should meet at an all early date to consider both power and water rates the officers were instructed to check up on persons persona using water tor for lawn sprinkling without a permit and to prosecute if necessary attorney morris whose firm is revising the city ordinances submitted a part of the revisions tor for the councils consideration and it was decided to hold a special meeting on thursday night to further consider them the months claims against the th city were acted upon and some oth er matters of minor importance were wen disposed of before adjournment |
