Show THE MICflpSGOPE Biugham was under the microscope so to speak last Thursday w:.eu the ubject of the underprivileged child child was considered before the Ki-wanis Ki-wanis Club. The subject was presented pres-ented by four speakers who demon strated a thorough knowledge of lucai conditions and their remaka showed much careful study on the subject. Those who spoke were Drs. Frazior and Richard and Principal Alklin and Watklns, each presenting the subject from a somewhat different angle. The subject was divided into three distinct phases, namely home, the school and the community. One of the great needs of the community com-munity according to the speakers, id a Recreational Director, to shape and guide the activities of boys and girls during that period when they are not required either in school- or at home . To give them a chance to develop and function in a beneficial way during the time they might otherwise be loafing about the streets or indulging ! n harmful actvities. The following were suggested as some of the things which the club could sponsor for the benefit of the youtn or our community: set them a good example, invlt them to hear speakers on betterment subjects, visit vi-sit the schools, assist inprovldlng playgrounds and take a more active Interest in the promotion of the Boy Scouts and Boy Rangers. The management of the Canyon Hall came In for the most severe criticism, cri-ticism, being classed as the worst managed dance hall ih tne state. Perhaps this meeting was one of the most important the club has ever rheld, certainly they developed much 'real interest, the large attendance remained re-mained later than usual ' to discuss points for real work along helpful' lines. |
