Show WA DECIDE TO UNITE ON MODERN AMUSEMENT HALL f 9 will build it in connection with new chapel for west ward old opera house to be torn down lor for material it contains EAST WARD nim NAMES COMMITTEE TO WORK WITH WEST decision to build a modern amusement xou mu hall for or church recreation activities in connection with a new chapel for or the west ward was reached at it a public meeting of the membership of both wards on anday evening of this week in the east ward tabernacle the meeting called by bishops of the two wards was presided over by oscar M lymon chairman ot of the west ward building committee who outlined briefly plans which hla his committee and the bishopric of his ward favored provided the east ward wished to join them bishop marsden then explained that the membership of the east ward had discussed the matter at some length at a previous meeting but had taken no BO definite action and then the matter was thrown open tor for general discussion motions subsequently prevailed that the wards build and own conjointly an amusement hall in connection with the new chapel tor for the west ward which it was conceded the east ward is under obligation to help with then the matter of 0 tearing down the opera house houge and using the material from it in constructing the new church was discussed and a motion carried unanimously that this be done it was pointed out that the new amusement hall would be somewhat larger than the opera house that it will be strictly modern in in the way 0 of ventilation heating etc and that even though the old one were to remain standing it probably would be abandoned ott on the completion of the new so BO there ther e was no opposition to tearing it down by getting the material from rom the opera house the work ol of building the new one can start much sooner ClIt chairman airman lyman pointed out and he be said it will be possible to salvage nearly five fire thousand dollars worth of lumber and of bricks which can be used tor for the inside walls the outside wallis so BO far as his committee is concerned he said will be of 0 pressed bricks they propose to do the foundation work at least by days labor so that local poi people xe may nave dave al ai opportunity to 00 floer lic or a i large larea part of 0 it but they figure that they may have to coh contract tract the brick work the roofing finishing etc lie said they would need some gome cash contributions very soon it if they commence work immediately as aa they propose to in order that they may pay their employees once a week whatever Is due them wilford wai day volunteered to be paid the following day as a starter money from the church will be a callable val lable as rapidly as it Is matched by local contributions the new building as previously mentioned in these columns will in it all probability be located on the northwest corner of the meeting house block with a west front the chapel will have a seating capacity of 0 about three hundred and tidy fifty ind ample class rooms will be provided the recreation hall will probably pro bibly be about thirty eight by sixty four feet exclusive of a sixteen toot stage in one end there Is some question as to whether th that at is a large enough stage ind it Is possible that the main floor space will be shortened up to provide tor for a bigger one following the meeting of the two wards on monday evening the east ward membership remained to name a committee which will work in with the west ward committee in building the recreation hall and will also solicit funds fund for the east sides contribution to the chapel the personnel of th committee which was named Is as follows L N marsden walter C mitchell Ml rex C ward thomas bennett and richard benson |
