oil saturday afternoon with them awe wre W a number of cedar cites live wire citizens and they were joined coined by quite a number ot of local people here for or a short tour of our ball all y it was not the idea adea of those la in charge ot of arrangements here to try to show them all of 0 our valley but just enough to 0 let them sele sae its possibilities ties accordingly they were taken arst first to the halterman farm where about COO gallons of sparkling batet per minute gushed from the big well and flows out to irrig irrigate ate lit hi acres which last year wag wai t i bored red with sage brush but now is a field ot of beautiful waving crops no other thing in the valley could have emphasized to better advantage the possibilities of this section through fields ot of waving grain alwiila al liila and pasture land past other big wills wi they were taken to the li N marsda n farm arm on the lake shore where his mammoth barn houses some ot of the finest specimens ot of ram rain douille bouille sheep in the world where the water from his big well is irrigating native giafes hay lands slid and cul ali abed crops and from which point a wonderful view of 0 our valey cao can b bi had with our mountain range and old brien head in the distance as a bick back ground at the halterman alterman Il farm S A halterman gave some pertinent facts facia concerning the cost coat of the ot of barn and sheds tor lor handling sheep was seen returning to town they assembled at the relief hall where a splendid bim b in quei prepared by the relief society sisters awaited them the banquet was a credit to the community as was ahe he program in connection therewith clayton mitchell as toastmaster announced in their turn solos b alice williams of cedar city and mary alary orton of parowan carowan Pa rowan a duet ba b mr and mrs isgren of 0 the visiting party a ladies trio by our girls who contested in salt lake CRY city all ol of which were encored a short addreal ct cl welcome by county commissioner evan williams on behill of iron county a welcome to ct ci b mayor adams a response by president alex aiex F dunn of thi As association soca a few words from john NV bentley Een vice president of the OUT oui chamber of commerce and a short talk by kumen L jones gonei of the cedar visitors aside from the wonderfully good things to eat a real hit of the banquet was the singing by our girls who had to give two encores before the visitors lors bors would be satisfied and during the next day of the outing they quit talking about those girls and their singing after the banquet those who cared to dance were guests of the blue lantern pavilion and its it a our observation eer that a lot of them thoroughly enjoyed it in tact fact mr sonda had bad to close down the dance at midnight to get rid of some of them A good crowd of local people and an ideal evening contributed much to I 1 the enjoyment of the visitors and their impressions ot of parwan carwan the trip up C edar cedar canyon to the breaks next morning and a real good lunch which was also prepared by our relief society are things which the visitors will never forget they were mighty enthusiastic about it the banquet that evening at the hotel el escalante at which the visitors were guests of the union pacific system anil ana lf at which prominent cedar people were as numerous as the visitors reflected an air of culture and refinement which any community might welt be proud of it Is regretted that your editor failed to list the num numbers liers on the program as they were given and for tear fear ot of overlooking some of them we shall not attempt to enumerate them except to say that K L jones president ot of the cedar city chamber of commerce acted as toastmaster mayor christensen extended a welcome john E jones of the association responded ex governor spry who was a special guest of the evening talked briefly as did A V peterson advertising agent tor for the U P system which was host boat and W P epperson ot of the association so clation talked briefly the other oilier cumberson num berson on the th Pil program were all musical and better belter singing and ln in music we have rarely ver ever heard it certainly was a credit credit to cedar city and the whole county the hripto trip to zion park the following day was waa another very enjoyable one and completed what ts la considered one of the tbt outstanding summer outings ot of the utah state press association the expense ot of entertaining the visitors was waa bourn by parowan carowan city cedar city iron county and the cedar city chamber ot of commerce all of which made appropriations to cover same |
