Show minutes of city council meeting city council met in the library building pursuant to adjournment at 8 p m august 16 1921 mayor J clayton mitchell presiding roll call showed 3 members present re councilmen burton came in after roll call minutes of the previous session were read and approved IV L adams and john S brown appeared and made verbal petition to the council for an appropriation of to assist in purchasing suits and equipment for a city base ball team and stated that some person would be appointed to take care of the equipment and suits the matter was taken under advisement for the present to be acted upon latter in the evening 11 II L adams appeared and stated that a mr alberts a noted magazine writer and a company of eight would be in parowan carowan about aug and would make a tour of the valley and mountains in this vicinity and also take moving pictures of points of interest and wished to know if the city would appropriate sufficient to pay their hotel bills etc while here it was moved by W warner if that an appropriation of 10 0 or as much thereof as was necessary be made for that purpose the motion carried the annual financial reports of the city recorder and treasurer were read and approved apy roved on motion of mr mitchell the condition of the pipe line in the he canyon near the four mile spring and in some parts of the city was reported by the supervisor and on motion of W warner IN mitchell fitchell the matter was referred to the water works committee te investigate the matter matte of cu lverts at intersections s of streets and side sidewalks was wrought brought up by S A halterman alterman II it was moved by mr air adams that the matter be referred to the streets and sidewalks committee to investigate and aid expend not to exceed where most needed the motion carried the matter of extending the water to the lots of david richard was brought up by the supervisor who stated that mr richards rich ards desired a little time in which to pay the frontage tax it was moved by W warner maichell Mii chell that the supervisor be authorized to extend the water to mr richards and that he be allowed three months in which to pay the frontage tax the motion carried the matter of rates for electricity was discussed and it was moved by mr air mitchell that a flat rate of 75 cents for the first light and 40 cents for each additional light and for irons be charged per month commencing sept 1921 and that patrons be given until oct ast 1st 11 to install meters motion carried mayor Al mitchell itchell as supt bupt of the sunday school reported the matter of the prize awarded the sunday float by the ath of july committee stating that the city had furnished the bunting and decorations and that if the council desired the sunday school would return part or all of the money to the city the council expressed the wish that the sunday school retain the prize money the matter of compensation for services of alex matheson at the light plant during the summer was brought up by the mayor and on motion of W warner mitchell an appropriation of 2 was made to partly compensate if mr r matheson for his services the proposition of having signs posted at different places advertising parowan carowan was discussed and it was moved beair by mr mitcheel Mitche heft fl that a committee of three e appointed to look after the matter and an appropriation pria tion of not to exceed was made for the purpose of providing such signs the matter of expense for coal etc for the swimming pool was brought up and on motion of adams an expenditure of not to exceed 25 was authorized the matter of the purported lease of the cites portion of the race track was brought up by mr adams and was discussed on motion of mr air mitchell the city recorder was instructed to notify martin and sons that the city of parowan carowan does not acknowledge any lease of the cites portion of the race track to any person whatsoever and that said city protests against its use by them for any purpose whatever without first making arrangements with the city council the motion carried the matter of the city assisting in securing a person to conduct the band was brought up and it was moved by if mr r adams that t it be the sense of the council that we favor the city assisting in hiring a mus cian the mayor reported that he had engaged the services eg of mr 11 C parcells as city attorney for 6 months commencing july |
