Show LETTER FROM BROSE the follow following letter was received recently by ia miss igsa nora nara paramore from her br brother 0 III J A paramore and as there is much of interest in it we requested to d that we be allowed to it the request being gr granted anted willingly mr caramore Far rara amore more 1 is now in the transportation alio soon eion of the vancouver camp vancouver barracks Was washington bargion dee dec 12 1917 dear sister nora I 1 received your most welcome let ter today the first time I 1 have heard beard from you since I 1 arrived at thus camp I 1 w was as sorry entry to hear about M iton sev sevy I 1 saw his brother lyman at camp lewis lewia before I 1 left you will oc no doubt be interested in what I 1 am dome and what I 1 have already done so will vill begin by bv say me ing that in every branch of the ser vice they have infantry drill that is the first thing that is taught to the soldiers A company a divided into three sections each section cal led a platoon platoons are divided in into t 0 8 squads consisting of eight men a and 0 1 in each squad there is a ader commonly inov known n as a corvo corporal rae every morning we hae inspect tion we have to look about right or we get called on the carpet evey every saturday we have a general inspection and we have to be ed ad nicely leggons leggons absolutely clean and appear as ratty natty as possible if a mans hair needs trimming the captain is n not a 4 bit backward in telling abot him about oil it 11 about t two months t hs ago there was umber a call ai for 1 lumber jacks 1 a ks and I 1 volunteered che to go into the woods and and nd w work 0 rk on the sawmills A week ago 90 last wednesday the captain called al my name out as one to go and he gave me about an hours time to get things hin a together I 1 am not dot t f sorry that I 1 have made the move this Us is is a far better camp than camp lewis we are located on the edge of the town of vancouver a place about the size of ogden an and a very pretty place place the lawns are all green we are about nine miles from portland located on the columbia r river iver which is the dividing line between t wash washington 1 miton and oregon the other night they wanted all the men who had experience in truck driving and repairing I 1 told of my experience in the auto bu business which was the means of we me being transferred in 10 to the headquarters transportation company A S S C I 1 am now right at home with an auto automobile fill e the g government 0 vern ment has forde fords 15 dodge touring cars 10 motorcycles 30 large trucks there is about sixty men in this company most all of them being from michigan out of the factories fac tonea there they are a very nice bunch of m men e we do not have so much drilling only about one half hour a day we are in the regular army and have more liberties than the barrack barlack me ln men h have ve most all a of f our work will be hauling sup supplies P lies to the soldiers and wood coal etc I 1 hardly know how to act since I 1 have been placed in the business that I 1 like we he have a a very nice commander or captain he tells cells us we are in the highest branch of service in the united states state army I 1 am just as busy here as I 1 ever was in the garage at home so you will know w that I 1 do not have very much time to write I 1 sm n jus next door to the boys boya who came cam down from camp lewis with me but I 1 was the only one transferred into inlo this thia company my address is headquarters racla transportation sq A S S C van coover coaver wash with love to all your brother brose |
