Show JAMES OLLERTON dedd DEAD old resident of parowan carowan sue suc ecamp cambs t to 0 grim reaper in arizona anzona on april 8 lost week word was received here that james Ol ollerton larton an old and tea rea peeled resident of parowan carowan was dead ile he left for salt river valley arizona last tall fall where he in tended to an engage wage in the raising of fruit and to regain refrain if possible his health which had been failing for some time james ollerton Ol was born in preston england june 27 1855 and was converted to the gospel of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints and immigrated to amer ama tea ica in 1864 he was a member of the warren company and it was while traveling with kith this compani compan that his mother died of over exertion in western wyoming where she was buried in the spring of 1865 the Ot Oll lerton eften family went to levan where james worked clearing land and herd ng animals etc at which work he was engaged up to the time he moved to parowan carowan to work for an uncle hauling timber he worked in the lumber bi business siness off and on for 15 or 20 years it was during these years that he became acquainted with col call dame for whom he worked consi cons demable and learned to love him and hold him in fond remembrance for it was the counsel and advice of coll col dame which no doubt shaped his life in the course couise of integrity and industry which characterized it As a young man still in his teens he went on a church mission to the mt lumber mill where he worked a year or two at the time oi of the building of the st george tem pie he met mary E adams while at work at the saw mill and the mutual attraction toward each other resulted in their marriage in the st george temple mr ollerton and wife settled in parowan carowan in which city were born ta 0 them eight children he was very anxious that his hii children should be educated as he realized that an education would fit them for the ba battle atle of life he having baying been deprived of the bleaching ble acing of an education however 1 lo wever he wag a great reader and had a larze lare fund of c if knowledge I 1 10 all best phylo phyla and scientific subjects he founded the young mens reading room in parowan carowan and had charge of it for years he organized the po pa Iv society in this thia city in which he was a frequent lecturer he was early connected with the sunday schools and mutyala Mu Mutu tuala als both of which he served in the capacity of superintendent he was accorded the badge of honor boner for 25 years yeara continuous service in the sunday school he was also an active member of the high council of the par owan stake of zion in connection with his church positions position he also held many civil positions in 1914 he be went to arizona and so liked the country that he deter mined to make it his hia home consequently in dee dec of 1916 he moved there being ill at time of leaving he never regained his health and died april 8 and was buried in mesa meas city arizona |
