Show LETTER FRO FROM M BOSTON boston mass nov editor of parowan carowan times dear sir enclosed find a check for or our second years subscription to the home paper which we surely ap preci ace ate receiving each week it is about the only weekly letter we are ure lore of receiving and gives us an op port unity of keeping track of our townspeople we are especially glad lad to find some huh hitch school notes in each issue and are pleased to know of the success that the high school is meeting with and wish it continued success speaking Spi aking of the school work reminds me a of a column recently printed in n the times regarding the use of moving pictures in the public schools the day is near at hand when every school will have a machine installed for motion pie pic tures they are arc already common throughout the boston schools I 1 recall an eidth grade in which I 1 substituted teaching last year where the moving picture was used as a mean of teaching geography on the particular day I 1 was waa there one member of the class had been assigned the preceding week to lee ture on cuba she had ed it by topics and illustrated it by bi colored post card views that she had collected at the different post past card stands during the week 1 I think I 1 darrvel more of cuba dur ing the half hour that she lectured than I 1 ever knew before this plan was carried out students lecturing twice a week and unusual interest developed the machine used was very inexpensive post cards being the size of pictures used said and when thrown on the screen were 3 by 5 feet A bourde set of win dow claw shades were used to make the school room perfectly dark there has been a general alarm here lere especially during the auto autum months in regard to the dreaded child plague of infantile par paralysis alvais hot but it seems to be very nearly a thing of the past now it was the means of preventing boston schools from opening until five weeks after the usual time and then with a decrease of children however the public eye and mind at present since the election excitement is over is dirc directed ted on billy sunday the notable evangelist van gelort and his company which opened here last sunday his hia arrival sunday in this city was hearl ded with ellmost as much pomp and ce remon as a king kind might well expect A social delegation meet him and his party at south station and a special police force fare had to be calion ballod out to keep th the crowd back all ali the protestant church through out boston closed their doors to ral ly to the support of billy sunday at his tabernacle grounds As george is choir master at one of the lead ing church the minister armster gave him two reserved seat tickets so with the rest of the hurrying t throngs we buried away to see billy perform and were not disappoint ted we reached the tabernacle about b ou t 9 40 and found hundreds outside who would no not t be admitted be cause caum they have tickets we showed ours and were admitted but to standing room only as the ushers told us the crowds had arrived so ao early they could not handle them and so the house was already pack ed the tabernacle haa ban been erected specialty specially for this campaign which is to last for ten weeks it has taken a lively force of men nine weeks to build it it measures by feet and has a seating compactly compa cily of 20 and when the building proper is filled they let down some peek holes oil all around where people can stand on OB the outside and look in perhaps I 1 went with the wrong spirit I 1 t but I 1 felt more like I 1 was wag to a barnum bally Batly circus than out to hear the word of god all the he work on t the he building of of course is rough no floor except sawdust and shavings it is well lighted and the acoustic properties are splendid right over the evangelists glis ge lists ts head hangs a new invention known as the six eix w winged mind a angel at caled lied an Aue aphone which ia plan n ned a ed to carry his hie voice to the th ennist moat u unrepentant s pant sinner Os in the he back of the he tabernacle there are four choruses or choirs organized which will in turn do the singing for the campaign consisting as each h of 1000 I 1 sopranos altos basses and tenors tenon right back of the choir hoiris is a large printed inscription boston for christ at 10 a m n mr sunday appeared amid shouts of applause and such waving of handkerchiefs by the women as I 1 never again expect to see he was introduced as the most moat widely known and most beloyed beloved man of god who is preaching the word today he is certainly in terea teresi tinK tanK and a it if it were not for such a profuse use of slang his sermon cartoon would have been splendid his sub eject act was the holy spirit and at although the whole protestant clergy of boston were seated in the gallery at each side on special seats he rapped them soundly saying saving there was not enough spirit in all th the boston churches to grease one a axle 0 on a go cart he needs a good deal of f stage room from which to deliver theford the word and it casaia is said thatah that at the end of mary many of his sermons he 13 a coatless collarless coll artesa and that collar a and cuff buttons may fly in any direction but at the end of his first boston sermon he still remained properly dressed however to nights paper states that in last nights gl ts performance mr sunday over stepped the bounds of the stage line but owing to his athletic ability burned turned a somersault and landed right night side up over turning several chairs chain and some me people but still the word continued to flow uninterrupted george is especially busy this year with his music work he be is particularly ticul arly enjoying his hia composition course under mr george W chad wick director of the conservatory as aa well as his voice and piano man courses if he were two or three men just now he would be able to keep busy at coaching church choirs As a 4 rule the choirs here consist of a quartet but at present he be is a spending din cipe 2 nights a week coaching choirs at two different churches to day he answered a telephone call calf to meet with wi t it a committee from the child retia rainbow club who want his services to coach voices for a christmas cantata to be pu put t on in one of the boston theatres theartres The atres w with th orchestral accompaniment this offer as well as the church positions come through the recommendation men dation of course of mr trowbridge assistant manager of the new england conservatory mr samuel W cole a former teacher in and for whom george demonstrates his new methods quite often has also given many splendid recommendations we are very happy to have neton
