called tor report ot binl sitt committees and nd ot the on laws presented the majority report ot the committee on the ele phona franchise question the report follows park city utah april 19 1905 to the honorable mayor and city conn ell park city utah gentlemen we the majority of conr committee on reporting on the franchise ordinance of the utah independent tel aphone company respectfully report aa follow s e believe that experience haa shown in other places notably in salt lake and ogden that to telephone systems in a vast improvement in the tele phone service and a minimum of in creased cost we know that the utah independent telephone system is endorsed by the business men and telephone users as much superior to any system they have formerly used the utah Independent Telephone corn pany franchise provides for a maximum charge much less than the charges here tolore paid by telephone users in this city e believe that the granting ol 01 this franchise will result in a vast amount 0 money being expended in our city during the coming summer and the constant employment thereafter of a goodly number of people who will be residents of our city and will increase tha taxable property of the city thus contributing to the revenues of the city county state and school district and also the pay ment of a license to do a telephone busi ness in our city we believe that inasmuch as all cities in the state have granted a tran chise for this company that a refusal by this city would result in the isolation of thia city tn BO tar as independent tele phone users over the state are concerned further this council is upon record as opposed to monopoly as the committee on laws in its report on the electric light stated our committee believes that the citizens ot park city would be benefited by the introduction ol 01 a corn company in liefting lieb ting aa well as in other public corporations and this report a aa adopted by the vote of the council the independent company not only offers a redaction in rentals but gives to the city free of charge all telephones le city may desire not alel to b determined gwei alt council and in addition by the thereto gi ea to the alty the tree ube 0 abe boun denes of its toll tines the stale of uta for the pa ol 01 P vally pre hending camin b the abe only toll use the refusal of this not w denies to the people of tb a the ube aate telephone of an excellent and up to c bul system modern in every ret would affect as well every bone with abe in the state who desired to talk residents of this city we recommend the adoption t report and the granting of the frai thi asked tor because we believe in improvement and i w egression gres sion we believe in better telephone and by this franchise is ih only way we will gat it we believe that a franchise is worth something and the independent offers us that whereas the bell corn pany has never given us anything although it has had abe exclusive use of our streets for its system for twenty years we believe that park city people ceeil moie work aad the independent coin this work ata time when we are eo much in need of it we need more good buildings on main estreet and be
