Show Ill-fated Everest Climb Shown James Wickwire, a member mem-ber of the first successful American climb of the world's second highest mountain, K2, and a member mem-ber of the 1982 American attempt on the unclimbed north face of Mount Everest, will be in Salt Lake City to present the award winning movie of the ill-fated Everest climb on Saturday, April 23, 1983. Mr. Wickwire will speak and show the movie "Everest-North Face", narrated by Robert Redford, at Highland High School Auditorium at 8:00 p.m., as a benefit for the Great Salt Lake Council, Boy Scouts of America. "Everest-North Face" tells the story of the American group, including Salt Lake's Dick Bass and Marty Hoey, that crossed China in the spring of 1982 to scale the north face of Mount I Everest. After the tragic death of Salt Lake climber Marty Hoey, who had hoped to be the first American woman to reach the summit of Everest, members of the expedition came within 1500' of the summit. Tickets are $3.50 and are available at Wasatch Touring Company, Timberline Sports, the Salt Lake Boy Scout office, and at the door. |
