Show (DHniht - -r- 0 by Bca Kummer A memorable weekend What a weekend! The picnic on Saturday brought many who had not been back in many years. And what a way to renew old friendships and make new ones. The dance that night was also a great success as people met with old friends and made many new ones. Then on Sunday all of us went to see "THIS is The Place" at the Egyptian, and oh what fun! The fast-moving musical about Park City past and present really gives you a good laugh. Monday morning, Labor Day, every one was up bright and early. It was a bit cool but it was a beautiful, typical day to us. The flower show at the Memorial Building too was a great success. Then we took a break to meet some family from Idaho who were taking the daughter to Provo where she will attend B.Y.U. Oh how time flies. Then it was off to the park for the old timers' picture. I don't think I quite made it. I was running up the walk, hand raised high, but I think a little out of the picture. Oh well, I won't be the only old timer left out. I was with several others standing out of view. Back at the Memorial Building, the drawing was held at 4 p.m. Monty Orr drew Mike Snow's name for the beautiful afghan, crocheted and donated by Wilma Larremore. What a treasure. It was a long weekend but how rewarding. It will be long remembered. re-membered. Plans are to make it an annual affair so we will be looking forward to next year, bigger and better, I am sure. A big thanks to all who helped to make it such a memorable day. Evelyn Stanton is in the Holy Cross hospital, having suffered a severe stroke July 27. She was transferred from Provo. Evelyn has been living in Provo with son Jim. Our best wishes for her and her recovery. Leland and Wanda Bethers of Whittier, California are spending a week in Salt Lake with Leland's brother Afton after coming up to Park for the Labor Day celebration and enjoying it very much, 't hey are former Parkites and are not too sure they like many new buildings and all that's been happening. But, as they said, progress does many things and it never pleases everyone. The Woman's Athenaeum held its annual flower show and bake sale at the Memorial Building on Labor Day. There were well over 150 visitors to see the display and the home-baked goodies were all gone by 1:30. Visitors came from many places: France, Florida, Arkansas, California, Idaho, Arizona, Nevada and many Utah cities. It was nice to meet and greet the many people who came in. The Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Park City chapter, will hold their opening meeting on Sept. 19, the third Wednesday rather than the second, due to the State Fair and the Ice Follies which will draw many of our members. Our regular meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month, September through May, at 7:30 p.m. in the Seminary building. If you missed the old time Park City picnic on Saturday you missed a lot of fun. Many stories were told and remembered and each seemed to remind one of things to talk about in the good old days of living and growing up in this great little town. What history and reminders of days gone by when it was a struggle just to survive. Many of these memories were put on tape to add to the colorful history for others to enjoy long into the future. |
