Show dDMttpnaiiriieg Frank Byer Frank Byer, a former Park City miner, died Nov. 15 in a Salt Lake hospital. He was 71. He was born Feb. 5, 1913 in Park City to Mike and Matilda Padjen Umeljenovick. He lived on Daly Avenue virtually all his life, according to daughter Barbara Price. The house where he was born sat on the lot now occupied by Bea Kummer's boarding house. In later years, he lived immediately next 1 . . r t He married Maud McPhee March 1, 1934 in Salt Lake. She died Sept. 9, 1962. He entered the mines when he was in eighth grade, in the late 1920's. When they closed down in 1952, he went to work for Western Steel, where he laid and cut steel plates. He retired in 1965, said Mrs. Price. Away from Park City, he worked for a mine in Butte, Montana briefly in 1936. Byer was interested in prospecting and often worked a small mining claim behind his house, said Barbara Price. He also enjoyed hunting, but Barbara recalled one friend who said, "When he went out, he looked more for rocks than he did for deer." He was also an avid reader. Byer belonged to the Catholic Church. He is survived by his children: Mrs. Ralph (Audrey) Stevens and Mrs. Jerry (Nancy) Lister, both of Heber City; Mrs. Arvil (Barbara) Price, Mike Byer, Frank Byer (all Park City); Mrs. Jack (Dorothy) Spearin (Fayetteville, West Virginia); John Byer (Sandy, Utah); Tom Byer (Lehi, Utah); Mrs. Jay (Cathy) Justice and Mrs. Joe (Marsha) Trujillo (both West Valley); siblings Mrs. Roy (Annie) Houtz, Tony Toly and Mrs. Josie Clark (all Salt Lake); Mrs. Ida Nuneviller and Pete Toly (both Park City); and George Toly (Anaheim, California); 35 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Mike Uneljevich and John Byer. Holy Rosary was Sunday night at Olpin Mortuary in Heber. Requiem Mass was held Monday morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Park City. Burial was in the Park City Cemetery. |
