Show - o Dare 1 say it? Summertime. ..and the living is easy. I think it's really, finally arrived. Alpha Beta is reported doing a dynamite business in the cocoa-butter department, along with heavy sales in the outdoor recreation areas. Crochet sets seemed to replace dandelions on the lawns around town this week, and volleyball nets blossomed in suburban yards. The inviting smell of barbequed dinners replacing a season of frozen foods was almost too much for the strictest dieter to resist. It was a heavy weekend of sunshine and easy living... Summertime... I know it must be so for the lilac trees all along Park Avenue are in bloom. I am grateful some foresighted former (and present) Park-ites Park-ites long ago planted those lilacs which have grown so tall and are a delight for all of us now to enjoy. Without pounding on the current only topic for discussion I might just add here how important it is for us now to use some foresight and vote next Tuesday. Never mind which issues you're in favor of, or against, the most important thing to remember is how your vote will affect future Parkites (and current ones) for years to come. If this election has done one single thing it is to prove we as a community certainly aren't apathetic. Let's just hope the numbers at the ballot box show we cared enough to vote. End of sermon, and the living is easy... The living is so easy the city decided to retreat at the first sign of summer. If you heard they moved to . Snowbird, that's only partially true. They were there briefly last week in the form of city staff members to discuss budgets and futures and some will return this week(city council 'members) for another work session. Sources tell me the social hour discovery was an animated Police Chief Crowley. Crow-ley. (Is that really a surprise?) In the style of the old west Crowley spun tales and entertained the staffers. Another sign of a smart city manager, more than managing... mana-ging... Summertime... And the only kind of smoke you want to get in your eyes is from the barbeque. Or at least that's what one Parkite has convinced a lot of her friends. Last Monday evening even-ing nearly thirty people showed up at moon cabin to agree to be hypnotized out of smoking. The evening was set up as a general session to learn the process and to discuss the self-defeating effects of smoking. Then one by one current smokers made appointments for later in the week to be hypnotized out of their habit. The homeowner herself is a graduate of the class and hasn't touched an ugly week in over two years. (All names have been left out of this paragraph so as not to put any pressure on those trying desperately to quit. Good luck gang!), and the living is easy... . The living has been good anyway if not always easy for Dick Doty. Why else would he look so damn terrific on turning fifty years old this week? That's right, I didn't believe it either but he's really fifty. Thousands of well wishers (or so it seemed) dropped by Dick's house Sunday afternoon to share his happy returns. His new house is on the golf course I might add, and if anybody's earned it, it's Dick. I hate to think of how many stupid jewelry repairs he has done for me at no charge. And I know I'm not alone. He's fair and honest and those are rare qualities in any person, let alone a jeweler. Happy, happy, " birthday, Dick... And I hear the fish are even jumping in Silver Creek. Out in Park Meadows there are large numbers of Huck Finn look alikes that seem to strike a summer vein and a smile on the worst of days. Summertime... Treat yourself to a barbeque barbe-que or a swim this week. After this long winter you deserve it! |
