Show Safety Inspection Law Intact The recent 44th session of the Utah Legislature had before it a bill to repeal Utah's vehicle safety inspection inspec-tion law. This bill was passed in the House of Representatives, but was never voted on the Senate and, therefore, the bill does not apply. Colonel Robert J. Reid, superintendent of the Utah Highway Patrol, and Lt. Howard Cooper, director of the safety inspection program, pro-gram, would like all vehicle owners to be aware of the fact that Utah's safety inspection requirement is still effective and that the safety inspection of every Utah vehicle must be completed com-pleted before the end of the month as determined on their current safety inspection inspec-tion stickers. "The Highway Patrol will continue to enforce the law on expired safety inspections. We just want to be sure everyone is aware of no change in the law, but basically so they will not run the chance of being cited due to the fact a person thought the inspection was repealed when, in fact, it was not," Cooper said. The Utah Highway Patrol appreciates the Utah driver's concern for traffic safety. Driving a car that is in good mechanical condition is only one of the many facets involved. Annual vehicle safety inspection is definitely one way to help reduce accidents that may otherwise be caused by faulty equipment. equip-ment. Cooper encourages every motorist to insist on a good, complete inspection of their motor vehicle whenever their month for renewal arrives. |
