Show .Bus Stop Donated Park Qty's donated bos stop under the Star Hotal. When the transportation starts rolling this winter, people waiting for a free lift on Main Street won't have to wait in the cold. Bill and Carol Rixey have generously offered to convert a small shop space on the street level of the Star Hotel, which they own. The Rixeys plan to decorate dec-orate the area which they will call "The Bus Station" in a general bus stop motif with Continental Trailways and Greyhound posters, and even made a trip to the bus stations of Salt Lake to get an idea just what bus stations look like. Rather than going along with the traditional light green of most bus stations. Main Street's bus stop will most likely be painted royal blue to match the color of the Park City buses. Both Rixeys agree that the stop will be reflective of Park City and just not typical bus station. "After all," said Bill Rixey, "The purpose of the station is to make people comfortable while waiting for the bus, so the atmosphere will have to be comfortable. Bill and Carol figure they can recover some of the opportunity costs by not renting the building as commercial space and some of the cost of utilities by selling certain small items typically sold in bus stops. They plan to have several vending machines dispensing dispens-ing cigarettes, candy, gum, aspirin, perhaps some ski accessories, newspapers, etc. They have also been toying with the idea of putting in a small counter and serving coffee and donuts. But the counter is a while off, right now they are trying to get a bathroom installed before the peak season is upon Park City. It's a . small space but should be cozy and the Rixeys plan to make the best use of what space they have. They are also interested in getting input from the community as far as ideas for making the "Bus Station" better. Most likely the station will be open late hours if not all the time and arrangements have been made with the transportation committee to have the bus honk as it travels up Main Street to give people a chance to get out of the station in time to make the Park City connection. |
