and their children Beth Belh anH Andy seated on chair and sitting on the floor are arc Karen and ami Bakan America is just Great Mrs Lennart has decided since she and Mr and their four children children children chil chil- dren arrived by plane Oct 6 1968 from Swe Swe- den FOR MANY MAN years they had dreamed of coming to America America America Amer Amer- ica to raise their family but didn't give it serious thought until April of this year Mr was born in America but during the depression depression depression de de- de- de his family moved to Sweden He and Mrs Olaus Olaus- son later became converts to The Church of Jesus Christ Christof of Latter-day Latter Saints They were the only Mormon couple with children in the area which has a population of ol some people They traveled 30 miles to attend their church meetings We would leave at 8 am a.m. on Sunday and spend all day at church meetings and return return return re re- re- re turn to our home at 8 pm p.m. AS TilE THE children grew older older older old old- er and there were various church meetings necessary that they attend during the week it was very difficult for the children to travel the 30 miles alone to attend meet meet- ings This is when the family family family fam fam- ily began thinking very strongly strong strong- ly of coming to America to raise their family so that the children would have the opportunity opportunity opportunity op op- op- op of attending Primary Primary Primary mary Sunday School MIA IIA and other church functions regularly without having to travel so far Upon arriving in Utah they were met by bv their friends Mr and Mrs 1 Bengt Jonnson and family of Kaysville Mr 11 and Mrs Jonnson took them into their home until they could find a home for themselves They have spent six weeks with the Jonnson family but have now moved into their own new home MR AND MRS Jonnson and children had the pleasure of flying to Sweden in June 1968 to visit with his relatives and many friends there They visited with the at that time Mrs and Mrs J Jonnson were missionary missionary missionary mis mis- companions in Sweden At that time Mr Jonnson was branch president there and they have been very close friends ever since Mr who has been beena a member of the Church for 20 years served as Bishop for three years at Sweden where here were o only ly 23 members in the Church Mrs is a devoted church worker too having served in the Relief Society presidency for one and a half years THEIR CHILDREN have adjusted adjusted ad ad- to the schools in Davis County very well although the first week was rather difficult difficult difficult dif dif- dif dif- for them due to the language problem In Sweden the children were also used to a minute 45 class and five- five minute rest period each hour but here they have one and anda a half hours of class work before they have a rest period This was quite an adjustment The whole family said they are happy to be in America We have never lived in the country before and we have especially enjoyed the moun moun- Another of their ob observations observations observations ob- ob is how peppy happy and enthusiastic everyone everyone everyone every every- I one is even the elderly peo peo- pie They seem so very busy with so much to accomplish MRS IRS said she thinks the women folk here are more relaxed about their housework In Sweden we clean all the way through our home each day she s said id The American broom has amused her because she had never seen a long-handled long broom before beCore We are accustomed accustomed accustomed ac ac- ac- ac to using a broom with a short handle such as the Americans' Americans whisk brooms to brush up the crumbs and dirt she he said The women in Sweden are arc just beginning to work outside their homes and childrens children's nurseries are just beginning to be built to cope with this working mothers' mothers situation Mrs said It It was with mixed emotions that we left our lovel lovely home and our prized possessions inI in I Sweden but we are so happy here that we have few regrets regrets regrets re re- re- re grets the new newcomers comers said And we were able to bring many beautiful pieces of handiwork handiwork handi handi- work to remind us of our native land Mrs added THEY TilEY IIA HAVE E many friends located throughout the State Slate whom hom they have met prevIOusly previously previously pre pre- in Sweden When we left Sweden the church members members members mem mem- bers honored us at a farewell farewell farewell fare fare- well dinner party We are the only ones in each of our families families fam fam- l es who are members of the Church so it was hard to bid them all goodbye goodbye good good- bye Mrs said Mr was vice pres ident of the
