MacKelvey has lived in Park City for 1 year and said he has wanted to open a bakery for a long time. "Mac's Donuts" is located on Main Street behind Kindersport in what used to be a mortuary. The owner emphasized how good business was in the few days the donut shop has been open. "People come in and say, 'Alright! We've been waiting for this for a long time.'" MacKelvey begins making donuts at 4 in the morning, everyday. He said when the ski season starts, Mac's Donuts will be open 24 hours a day. For the time being, however, the donut shop will stay open from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m., 7 days a week. Kerry MacKelvey said he could hardly keep up with the customers; custom-ers; his donuts are going fast. He said he could make larger batches of donuts, but would rather have them fresh for all the local residents who visit. Mac's Donuts has all kinds, ranging from an assortment of jelly donuts to the more conventional conven-tional glazed, to apple fritters. And for the kids, there is also popcorn and candy. MacKelvey said he decided to open his donut shop for one reason: "I love pasteries," he smiled. The new owner added he has never baked before, but appar: ently he is learning fast. This reporter tried a "few donuts at Mac's Donuts and found them to be delicious. Kerry MacKelvey |
