"It is also a blessing to be a member of this church and hold the priesthood." He said the greatest source of happiness is available in this church. President Rex Walker expressed express-ed his thankfulness as a counselor in the presidency and to others. He said, "It has been a tremendous experience," He expressed his thankfulness to his wife, "she is such a help to me." He said we are now in good hands. The change is good, others need the experience. They will carry forth the work in the stake. He said he would uphold and honor them. The concluding speaker was Elder Marvin J. Ashton. He expressed how grateful he is for the lessons learned on a basketball and football team. He said, "Take pride in the lessons of life taught on the fields of competition." He commended the South Summit team. He said there needs to be a desire, the dedication and discipline. "To serve, to lead and follow, to be someone." If you quit on the field you quit in life. He said you need the desire to perform to acheive and accelerate, to be champions. The desire to perform mentally and spiritually, he excited. A desire to win and play by rules even when the score goes behind. "I am grateful that desire is a great qualification in the service of our Heavenly Father." The dedication to be commited to a purpose to be able to meet what comes. Anxiously engaged in a good cause. The desire and dedication is needed. He related several stores of desire and dedication. He said he has never met a man like the champion Spencer W. Kimball. Champions keep going he said, "Prophets of God are made up from championship champion-ship material." The kind of people that have a desire and character to become champions. A Latter-day Saint Stake Conference was held in the Kamas Stake Center on November Novem-ber 26, and 27th. Elder Marvin J. Ashton a member of the Council of the Twelve presided over the Saturday evening as well as the Sunday morning Sessions. The theme of the conference was, "Developing Leadership in the Home." The Saturday session was conducted by President Rex Walker. Elder Marvin J. Ashton, Visiting General Authority felt it was rewarding to belong to a church where Heavenly Father is at the helm. That through faith and trust Heavenly Father will let his will be known. He stated that President Fred T. Marchant had served well and that he and his counselors are loved. On developing . Leadership in the Home, he told those present that, "We need to point out the good qualities in our children and pay them honest and sincere compliments withouth any ulterior ulter-ior motives." He said we should show our love and trust to our families and let our family members know we are proud of them. Elder Rulon G. Craven, Regional Reg-ional Representative, told, those present to develop the kinds of traditions in our homes so our homes would be where the spirit of our Heavenly Father can dwell, and where a father can develop into a saint and then into a prophet. General Session President Fred T. Marchant conducted Sunday morning General Gen-eral Session Conference. There were some changes made in the Stake Presidency. Called to serve as President of the Kamas Stake is President Thomas E. Brown, First Counselor is President. Robert Gary McCormick and as Third Counselor President Antoinie T. Powell. Brother Douglas Glad was called to serve as Executive Secretary, with President Fred Marchant as a Patriarch in the Kamas Stake. President Marchant was the first speaker. He expressed his deep appreciation of prayers and visits, cards and friends during this last while of illness. He said, "It's good to have friends." He said that these last six years have been a honor and a wonderful experience, serving as Stake President. He said, "I have enjoyed my associations with many fine people. The. support of my counselors, the High Council-men, Council-men, Bishoprics." "I have learned a great magnitude of responsbility of this job." He expressed his appreciation for his family and to his children. He said he would support President Brown and President McCormick, and President Powell. He said "They have done a fine job, and President Powell as Stake Gerk was excellent." He said he felt it was a great honor to be a patriarch. He said, "It is a great |
