Show Ladie Softball Banquet Closes Season, Merrill Named MVP i::-. -. V'- Hi- v' t- Jamie Merrill, a shortstop for Park City Yacht Club, was named , Most Valuable Player Monday night during a ladies softball awards banquet held at Digger's Express Company. The Most Improved Player award was given, to two players in Park City's Ladies Softball League Annie Her-sey, Her-sey, who plays for The Corner Store, and Mary Ann McKinney, player for Red Banjo. The Best Sportsmanship award went to a vivacious group of ladies of Mt. Air Cafe team who, although they lost every game, remained re-mained highly spirited throughout the summer sea-: sea-: son. And the Most Improved , Team was given to The Corner Store. Approximately 80 ladies attended Monday night's banquet that included barbe-que barbe-que ribs and chicken prepared prepar-ed by Digger, owner of the Express Company. Digger, along with Julie Christians and Marilyn Rivas served as commissioners this year for the ladies softball league. Following the awards banquet, ban-quet, Digger said she would like to especially thank the professional umpires who worked here during the ladies softball tournament. Digger added on behalf of the commissioners here deep appreciation to the league players who helped to make . this season such a success. The league next year, according to Digger, will be divided into "A" and "B" divisions The top five teams this year will be in the "A" division with; the bottom three teams plus two new teams making up the "B" division. Incidently, the umpires um-pires who umped the tournament tourna-ment games here last weekend week-end reportedly said the Park City ladies teams were good enough to play the B" class league in Salt Lake. : Prospector Square i finished finish-ed in first place in the league this year with a perfect 14-0 record, making it the first team in the history of league action to go undefeated. Red Banjo came in second place with a 12-2 record, followed by Digger's Diner in third, -10-4. The Mt. Air Cafe Softball Team received the "Best Sportsmanship" trophy on Monday night. Holding the trophy are Cafe players Michelle Mellott, right fielder, and Kristi Meyer, short stop. |
