A Galt Gait Principal Millcreek Junior High Bountiful The name Matt Galt Gait is a fa familiar familiar familiar fa- fa one in and around Bountiful Bountiful Bountiful Boun Boun- and throughout Utah not only in educational matters but also in civic affairs MR GALT has been an educator educator educator edu edu- cator for the past 20 years and he has never hes hesitated about taking an active part in church I and civic organizations in the community While completing high school and during my first two years in college I had no idea I of going into education Principal Principal Principal Prin Prin- PrinI I cipal Galt Gait admits After those I first two years of college I I found employment and became i successful in my chosen field u ABOUT SIX years later my path ossed with a Dr Ronald Campbell He was very impressive and convinced me that the greatest job on earth was to be found in the field of education Therefore I gave up upa a well-paying well job and returned to college at the University of Utah majoring in education Money was not considered in my change of endeavors for I will never begin to make the money I would have if I had remained at my first position This decision I have never regretted re re- reI I I Mr Galt Gait is married to the former Hazel Perry of Ogden I and they reside with their children children children chil chil- chili i dren at 56 E. E N. N Bountiful Their oldest daughter Lynette I 16 attends Viewmont Christine Christine Chris Chris- i tine 14 is a student at Bountiful Bountiful ful Junior Andy 13 also at Bountiful Junior while Mary MaryAlice MaryAlice MaryAlice Alice 11 Russell 9 and Robert Robert Robert Rob Rob- ert 7 7 are studying at Tolman Tolman Tolman Tol- Tol man Elementary SCHOOL AND civic affairs I take up much of his time but buthe buthe I he also participates in I Church activities He has in addition to teaching and administrative administrative ad ad- adI administrative I positions served i ion on many teacher association I committees and is president of I Ithe the Utah State Retirement I Board Mr Galt Gait has also been active in political groups and served as mayor of Bountiful for four years WHEN HE can he enjoys being being being be be- ing with his family especially when they relax at a resort in southern Idaho where he can swim I am amazed each week at athow athow athow how well our young people can organize can plan can carry carryout carryout carryout out activities of their own choosing when given the chance ON OCCASION they do require require require re re- re- re quire redirection but our real leaders of the young people are ready to lead in the proper way when opportunity is available avail avail- able Most of our young people today are just great TOO OFTEN we dont don't real really really really ly listen to the questions and statements of our young people people people peo peo- but we are always ready to answer what we think their questions might have been and to give advice about things we think they need to know Perhaps the television has taught u us the art of tuning out anything we dont don't want to hear OTHER OF the young persons person's persons person's per per- persons person's sons son's problems can also in part be traced to the adult I population which perhaps because because because be be- bej j cause of their great love and concern for the success and CJ i k r happiness of their children children have over-organized over our young peoples people's lives until they reach the point of rebellion against any organization be it family church school government etc The adult population of to today today today to- to day had fewer restrictions and they organized and directed much of their own timetable which was very very flexible if a schedule existed at alLIN all IN SUMMARY Mr Galt Gait remarks remarks remarks re re- re- re marks I love my work as an administrator at Millcreek Junior Junior Junior Jun Jun- High In fact it is such a glorious opportunity to be with delightful young people each day that I seldom think of it as work There are some ten to 15 days during a year that I Iam Iam Iam am disappointed in myself for forthe forthe forthe the way in which I have handled handled handled han han- a situation with a pupil teacher or parents and these days are long and weary but for the most part it is a delightful delight delight- ful experience |
