Armengol, a member of the Park City Ski Club, was written up in the January 10 issue of "Ski Racing", a nationally distributed dis-tributed newspaper, for his outstanding performance in the FINS Weirick Classic Race, held December 17-21 at Mammoth Mountain, California. Cal-ifornia. Armengol, who recently turned 16, finished third in the opening men's slalom race December 18. His time on two runs was 79.42, while winner Ron Fuller turned in a time of 76.41. Fuller is a member of the U.S. Qan-Am team which is named by the U.S. Ski Team. Armengol's finish in the December 19 race was even more impressive; he was second, losing to winner Robert Davis by less than a second. Their times were '82.60 and 83.54. The results are especially impressive because junior and senior racers competed together at Mammoth, unlike USSA divisional competition, Thus Armengol beat many older and more experienced racers. |
