Show i i By BERT i ii i r MABEL JONES GABBOTT GARBOTT THIS WEEK Mabel Jones Gabbott associate editor on onI I the Improvement Era East 1st South Bountiful Utah Mrs Gabbot is dedicated to her flowers family and in being being being be be- ing a poet and associate editor for a church magazine She has always been interested in reading studying and writing poetry poetry- AI AFTER HAVING VING many poems published she was asked to become editor for the Childrens Children's Children's Childrens ChilI Chil Chit I drens dren's Friend She remained in this position for eight years i During this time I became very interested in the field of childrens children's literature she reI recalled recalled re re- re- re II I called and I had opportunity I to take several summer courses i at the University of Utah Subsequently Subi Subsequently Sub Sub- SubI I i I have given lectures I on childrens children's literature I IN 1965 MRS Gabbott was called to be an associate editor for the Improvement Era a position she now holds Her duties duties duties du du- du- du ties along with editing are concerned with receiving reading reading reading read read- ing and evaluating the manuscripts manuscripts manuscripts manu manu- scripts which come to the Era Mrs 1 Gabbott and her husband husband husband hus hus- band J. J Donald Gabbott are very proud of their five children children children chil chil- dren two girls and three boys Steven 13 a student at Bountiful ful Junior High Geoffrey 16 a student at Bountiful High John a Bountiful High graduate ate working with construction Sue studying at BYU and Cheryl Cheryl Cheryl Cher Cher- attending the University of Utah THEY RAVE HAVE VE been active members of the community since 1949 Although Mrs Gabbott enjoys enjoys enjoys en en- joys her flower garden I UI would take no prize at any flower show she admits She also finds knitting a great enjoyment enjoyment en en- enjoyment along with reading and writing SHE TAUGHT school before her marriage She was a student student student stu stu- stu- stu dent at the University of Idaho and the University of Utah She received her teachers teacher's certificate certificate certificate I cate from the University of I s I Idaho Perhaps the greatest lesson I have learned she commented comment comment- ed is uis that there is a more excellent way and the striving to learn it and achieve it is worth the effort WITH EMILY Dickinson I could say Every day life feels mightier and what we have the I power to be more stupendous stupendous' s r r w w r w w r w w |
