Show EDITORIAL objective judgement In researching this week's story on the possible firing of Marsac principal John F.lwell, we found the issues to be clouded by a mass of very strong personal feelings. Much of the information we gathered can't be printed because it involves personal attacks and charges that can't be substantiated. We were deluged with confidential sources, but people were reluctant to speak "on the record." It became clear as the week progressed that, for some reason, a personality conflict has developed between Superintendent Goodworth and Elwell; and that people view the issue in terms of their feelings about the two men. Under the circumstances, it seems difficult, if not impossible, for . the Board of Education to make an objective judgement on the case. We urge the individual Board members and everyone involved to clear the air and make their judgements in a professional manner not on the basis of long-standing personal grudges. A man's career is at stake. It deserves no less. |
