The attempt attem-pt was blocked by a North Summit player, and the ball "bounced into the end zone where Park High's Kenny Eley pounced on it, giving the. Miners an apparent touchdown. Troy Packard gained over ; 150 ; yards for the second week in a row for the Miners Friday afternoon. He carried the ball 21 times for 165 , yards. Steve Toly proved , once again to be a valuable offensive weapon as he carried the ball 18 times fcr . 77 yards. And Junior Tom Tebbs, although he ran thtv ball only six times, racked up 44 yards. The Miners took - the opening kick-off and marched march-ed all the way down to North Summit's 17 yard line when the drive stopped on a fourth-ahd-two play. Park City's first score was set-up when the Braves fumbled on the Miner 25 yard line with a little over eight minutes left in the first quarter. On' first down, Fullback Packard fought his way through North Summit's line . to the eighteen. The Braves were also penalized on the play, taking the ball down to the eight yard line. The Miners then advanced to the three yard line, but on a second-anpVtwo situation, Quarterback Tom Flinders got hit behind the line for a seven yard loss. 7 . Park. High's Darrin Lawless Law-less kicked a 28 yard field goal on fourth-and-eleyen, giving the Miners a 3-0 ead giving the Miners a 3-0 lead with 5:29 remaining in the first quarter. " North Summit was unable to get their offense going on the next series of downs, and . punted to Toly who was tackled on the Miner thirty-six thirty-six yard line. Park City's running game again proved impressive, led this time by Tom Tebbs who, on a second-and seven play, carried carr-ied the ball from Park High's forty to the North Summit thirty-five yard line. The Miners were forced to punt on fourth down, and Tebbs booted the ball into the end zone as the first quarter ended. Park City got good field position following the next series of downs, and took over on the Braves' thirty-one thirty-one yard line. The Miners advanced down to the seven yard line when, on fourth-and fourth-and goal, Lawless kicked another field goal. With 7:08 left in , the first, half. Park High led. 6-0. Tnarh Sam Blondquist . But Park High's stubborn defense foiled the Braves' scoring threat, and the first half ended with a 6-0 Miner lead. It appeared as if the I Miners would be in for a long second half as the third quarter got underway. The Braves received the kick-off and advanced down to about mid-field. On third down and - two yards to go for the first, North Summit's Brett Judd took a hand-off from the Quarterback and raced a-round a-round the right side of the Miner line for a touchdown. The Miners roared back on ' offense, and with the help of a crucial five-yard illegal procedure penalty against North Summit, managed to take the ball down to the Braves 21-yard line. On first-and ten, with 5:42 . left in the quarter, Steve Toly banged up the middle to the twelve. Packard ran around - , the right side to the eight yard line of North Summit. Toly then took a flip from Flinders and was tackled on the one yard line. The Miners fumbled on third down, and North Summit recovered. i The Braves were unable to get out of their own territory on offense, and on fourth down, punted from about the 34 vard line. Tolv returned the ball to the North Summit 39 yard line, but the. Miners were penalized on the punt return, and the ball wound up back on the Miner 25-yard-line. The third quarter quar-ter ended with Park High on offense. Both teams exchanged control of the ball during the first half of the fourth " quarter. With 7:30 left in the game, the Miners began a drive that ended in another turnover. Steve Tolv and Troy Packard tramed-up to advance the Miners all the wav to North Summit's 15 yard line. But then on third and one. the Miners fumbled, fumbl-ed, and North Summit took over on offense on their own - 16 yard line. Park City stopped North Summit again, and the Miners received the fourth-down fourth-down punt and started on offense on their forty-three yard with 3:09 left in the - game. Tom Tebbs. on first down, took a hand off and broke clear of North Summit defenders down to the Braves ten-vard line. The , game was delayed with 2:54 on the clock due to a North Summit injury. When played resumed, Packard battled his wav to within three vards of a touchdown, but the Miners were penalized for illegal procedure, taking the , ball back to the fifteen yard line. Park High couldn't penetrate pene-trate North Summit's line on the next three downs, at which point Darrin Lawless was called in to try a field goal; which, if successful, : would have put the Miners in the lead by one point. And with 1:49 left on the clock, the controversial call by the official occured. Miner Ken Eley jumped on the blocked field goal in -the end zone, and it; was, ruled a touchdown.
