Show Freestyle Ski Event Boasts Big Purse Next weekend, March 15 and 16, some of the best women freestylers in the world will converge on Park City to compete in the Bud-weiser Bud-weiser Women's Ballet -Freestyle World Championships Champion-ships which boasts the largest prize purse ever offered professional women skiers in a single competition competi-tion $20,000. Some of those top women expected to compete in the event includeSuzy Corrock, 1972 Olympic bronze medalist; medal-ist; Judy Nagel, 1968 United States Ski Team member; Sandra Poulsen of the United States Olympic World Cup team and Kiki Cutter who just competed in the Women's Wo-men's Superstars Contest, placing fourth. The top 32 finalists will compete for $10,000 in both the ballet and freestyle com petitions. Competition will start each day at 10:00 a.m. with ballet on Saturday, March 15, on the Treasure Hollow run and the freestyle competition on Sunday, March 16, on the Widow Maker run. Also of note in this event is the new dimension of freestyle free-style (mogul) skiing which will be premiered. The new format for the mogul event is known as dual, head-to-head competition: two skiers competing against each other on the same course at the same time. Besides the added excitement created by the dual competition, the non skiing public will be better able to identify and understand the competition using this format. The entire event is being filmed for a CBS -TV Sports Spectacular show to be shown at a later date. |
