Jbustling commercial center- had been reduced to piles of Z- "smouldering embers and thousands of her residents found themselves homeless. In Salt Lake, newspapers reported Park City "could never be re-built". But in Park City the task had already begun. While the ashes were still warm. Park City began to arise anew like a phoenix beneath the clear June skies of 1898. There was never a moments thought of giving up amongst the City's inhabitants, only concern that the city might not be re-built by the time winter snows began to fly. Park City's "terrible fire" brought her once scattered residents together under a common bond of helping one another. It instilled a sense of community service and pride amongst her residents which we feel still prevails today. The loyalty of Parkites to their fellow citizens and their community sets our city apart from any other. The extent in which our citizens are willing to give of themselves towards the betterment of their community cannot be equaled anywhere and assures Park City will continue to survive future turmoil and adversity. Park City is not a town, city or place but a community made up of spirited devoted citizens who dearly love their home town and who are willing to give generously of themselves towards its betterment. Adversity cannot ever break the back of Park City it only brings out the fight in the hearts of her residents. |
