Show f ""iMMHIWI Playing with Class . Park City High School won more .than just an important football game Monday afternoon against North Summit: the . Miners also won a sportsmanship contest. Playing under extremely adverse conditions. Park High demonstrated what it takes to be a first-rate school. And most of the action, interestingly enough, took place off the field. It was a rather bizarre situation. North Summit had protested an illegal call made during a game between the two teams on September 26. The Region Eleven Board of Managers decided the entire game should be played over again: however,' North Summit appealed that decision to the . Utah High School Acitvities Association wanting, instead, for the game to be re-played from the point in the fourth quarter when the illegal call was made. Consequently. -Monday's game was played, beginning with 1:58 remaining in the game and North Summit ahead. 8-6. The successful appeal by North Summit, in a sense, backfired because Park City scored a touchdown with nine seconds left in the gaine, and won. Park High Principal Jack Dozier told the studentbody Monday morning, only hours before the game, that they should hold their heads higb...win or lose. The players knew the odds were stacked against them, but instead of moaning and complaining, they got down to the business of preparing for the short game. And we must congratualte Coach Bob t . Burns for a job well done. Unfortunately, ill feelings have surfaced as a result of the jirotest and appeal. But Park City High School accepted the . ' final decision and played that game Monday afternoon with class. fe - ' . ' V'--; ''""V:. a" "V';V; ''" . 'V''":-' Y- -. "-S--V : |
