Show We Get Letters Mrs. Lehmer Suggests Ambulance Might Be Aided by lady Helpers March 30, 1972 Park Record Park City, Utah Dear Sir: The Letter to Editor of Tom Sullivan, Chief of ParkCityFire Dept., published March 23,1972 has come to my attention. Tom states in said letter that the Park Record article headed head-ed 'Ambulance Service Needs More Helpers' must need some clarification; that we (P.C. Fire Dept.) have been able to fully man both ambulances when required re-quired either day or night and that if help is needed it can be obtained very easily; that if anyone any-one has suggestions or anything of a constructive matter to add to the service contact the Fire Dept., rather than take it upon themselves to say what or who is needed to help carry on." Since the letter further stated that "It has been brought to our attention that Councilman Lehmer brought up the matter in a recent meeting," I must assume that the edification and invective contained in the Fire Dept.'s diatribe was directed at me. I concur that if the Fire Dept. had suggestions or anything of a constructive matter to add to the apparent problem, they should have contacted some responsible member present at the meeting rather than take it upon themselves to say what I said or did" at the meeting. To set the record straight, at the Council meeting involved, Mrs. Terry, the City Recorder who answers the emergency phones and dispatches two volunteer vol-unteer ambulance persons to each ambulance trip, advised the Council that she was ex-periencing ex-periencing difficulty finding four available ambulance personnel per-sonnel whenever she was required re-quired to dispatch both ambulances. ambul-ances. I or someone else present suggested tapping womanpower available in the city as a means of solving the problem which Mrs. Terry said existed. The Council approved of this suggestion. In implementation of this approval, ap-proval, I requested Miss Bennett Ben-nett of the Park Record to give the matter publicity so that interested and available women wo-men would know whom to contact con-tact for accreditation requirements, require-ments, etc., needed to fulfill such position. I do not accept as censurable my discharge of my obligation as Councilman to work toward city problems. If the Fire Dept. has been able to fully man both ambulances am-bulances when required both night or day and that if help is needed it can be obtained very easily. I believe it is appropriate ap-propriate that they communicate commun-icate this information to their dispatchers rather than to me via the Park Record. Sincerely, Mary C. Lehmer. |
