Show A 1 LV t l 1 JOHN WENDEL J John ohn Wendel Dies at 81 Funeral services for John Wendel 81 who died May 25 at the South Davis Community hospital after a lingering illness ill illness illness ill ill- ness were held Tuesday May 28 In the Bountiful 1st ward MR WENDEL WENDE L was born In Wasserberndorf Bavaria on July 28 1886 When he was ten years old his parents and family family fam fam- ily Uy moved to also In Bavaria Here he finished public school and was then hired out by his father to a small machine shop where he learned the machinist machinist machinist ma ma- trade During this time the family became acquainted with the Mormon missionaries For the next four tour or five months they studied with the missionaries with his parents and oldest brother being baptized along with him HE LEFT on Mar 30 1903 arriving In Salt Lake City on May 5 1903 He received received re- re a call to the 1 Northern States Mission In February 1908 and on April 2 of the same year married Lina Llna Marie Ruf- Ruf ener In the Salt Lake LAS Tem Tem- In 1910 he returned to Salt Lake City and built a home In Poplar Grove He served as a counselor to two the Poplar Grove ward IN 1921 HE WENT to Wyoming Wyo ming in search of employment and worked for the Kemmerer Coal Co as a machinist In 1922 he moved his wife and six sons to Frontier Wyo Here two daughters were born to them and for 23 years he lived with his family In this area He was active In the Kemmerer Kemmerer Kemmerer Kem Kem- ward serving as a abish- abish bishops bishop's ops op's counselor and ward MIA superintendent and later bish bish- op During this time he was also aIso active In civic work as a member member mem mem- ber of ot the Lions Lion's club the Loyal Order of Moose and the United Mine Workers IN 1941 HE WAS elected to the Wyoming State Legislature e where he served for one term After being released as bishop In 1942 he was sustained as a member of the Woodruff Stake High Council where he served until February 1945 when he moved to Bountiful In the Bountiful 1st ward he has served as secretary of the adult Priesthood a award award award ward teacher and a member of the High Priests' Priests group He worked for the Wasatch Oil Re Refinery Refinery Refinery Re- Re finery and the Phillips Petroleum Petroleum Petroleum Petrol Petrol- eum Refinery until his retire retire- ment Then for eight years he worked as a maintenance man at Welfare Square until he became crippled with arthritis HIS include five sons Joseph W.
