Show Hb f- f Eye Ants View BY ny MAC lAC We went over the hill last w week weekend k ei end pw l My Lady Pair Fair and I 1 and we packed Into two days das more excitement excitement ex and beauty than we had bad imagined possible Friday noon we left for Vernal Vernal Ver VerI nal and we went over Wolf WolfCreek WolfCreek Creek Pass Pall which If you haven't been there you should It Its It's up the creek from Woodland Woodland Wood Wood- land and the gravel ro road d Is good and the scenery Is II magni magni- You Vou level off at feet and at that summit there Is a nice camp ground which h we expect to explore further when the snow Inow gets off The occa occasion on was wag a session lon of the board of directors of ot the Utah State Press Association and it started at 6 o'clock with a dee dee- licious buffet supper at the home of Mr and Mrs Cliff Clift Roosevelt publishers From there we drove on to Vernal to spend pend the night Wed We'd forgotten what hot nights ate ale like but we were reminded In Vernal spent most of the night wandering about the motel room switching her nightie like a cat switches its It tail tall and It didn't cool off until nearly dawn By that time Iti It was time to get up I I Twenty-four Twenty of ot us drove 50 I miles from Vernal across acro the state line Into Colorado and then about three e miles straight down to to the banks of the Green River Here we embarked In two rubber robber I boats piloted by the Hatch boys who own awn about 60 50 such boats and Keep them busy on the river t r all summer Now if you haven't taken such a river trip dont don't ever everI I p pass pan the opportunity The wild I untamed savage beauty of that country Is I. beyond description I The sheer rock walls leading up upI I from fron the water sometimes I I i feet straight up offer a never never- never never- ending and changing always-changing vis vis- vista I I ta ta and its it's like a circus there circus there is too much to see Occasionally I I I the river comes out into open I spaces and the scenery changes again There is never a dull moment Mento At no noon noen n we pulled up at a pretty park patk and found there thew a group of 40 or SO 60 Californians C l of the v the Sierra Club i s spending a full tati day there re resting up as liS part of ot a 8 five day trip It was wa's a picturesque crew tanned and bare and hairy of ot face tace and they were having hating a marvelous time Urn We ate and ad ate te and Ind ate and went back on the river So now Ii we came eme to the rapids and the excitement That's a thrill but butI perfectly safe ufe The boat boata cant can't I Pit pia h. h ana anCl cant can't sink but you h have e to wear Mae just Juat the same looks looka quite nee ico In one Yos Yo ought see lee her nce The pilots man 24 horse motors at the tall taU find end nd of the boat to steer through the rapids and speed up in slow water Rut nut both r motors nors conked out and we ent vent through several ral fast rapids aye We au all ail rot got soaked as alii nose roe bi bit waves es v hit broadside nd nci both boats got hung up on That's when your smile mlle I E Ins to hurt a little tittle Disembarking I fell off the I edge of the boat and hurt my arm but I cant can't find any anyone one oneto oneto to sue because every everyone one agreed It was wu just Jutt plain aWkward on my part We the dinosaur museums mus mus- sums one on the river a and aad one downtown In Vernal Gives you a little l idea ea of ot how short hort a epan span we Wt are entitled to in Eternity and makes you wonder whether theres there's much difference in 10 a alion mil million I lion or a billion years A Another n not o t h her e r dee dee licious buffet supper cupper In the home of Mr and Mrs Bill Bill Wallis the Vernal publishers and this night it was cooler and everybody slept 10 hours hour Sunday morning we came home Kind of surprising to find nothing changed after wed we'd been gone so 10 long two long two days day |
