G Morgan Sr society president and was accepted on behalf of at the state by Governor William G G. G Stratton Many of Illinois officialdom participated and with officers of ot the National S S. U U. P. P attended a luncheon as the guests of the Governor and his staff Arriving in Springfield Saturday night the Journeyed Sunday to Nauvoo I where they participated in a Northern States Mission which was in charge of I President Isaa A A. Smoot 1 Statue unveiling ceremonies were held Monday beginning at 10 am a.m. An outstanding outstanding outstanding out out- standing feature of the program was the presentation of a pageant under the direction of the Illinois State Historical Society depicting the life me of ot the Lincoln in New Salem The statue is nine feet in height and rests on a seven foot base of at polished granite Inscribed on the base are the famous words of the Great Emancipator With malice maUce toward none with charity charity charty char char- ity ty for fox all alIi with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right The statue has been declared by art critics as one of the finest pieces of work sculptured by Dr Avard Fairbanks noted Utah sculptor and f former dean of the University of Utah school of t Fine Arts After the unveiling ceremonies the Utah group visited a n number of ot cities and towns in the Illinois and Missouri which are famous in L D S church history his his- tory |
