Four of the group placed in the top ten of their rat rated d classes during the two-day two racing events There were youngsters from Colorado Wyoming California California Cali Call fornia forth Idaho and other western states The Park City skiers siders were the only representing represent represent- ing the state This by far was the competition the racing team has ever encountered Coach Matt Alv Alvarez rez was proud of their accomplishments since all the skiers from the Club placed in the top half of their individual races He feels the Park City Ski Club has a great potential of making a name for itself with such talent and skill as was was' displayed at the Steamboat Steam Steam- boat Springs Springs' fifty fifty fifth fifth Annual Winter Carnival Colleen Johnson won ninth place in the J Junior n i 0 r Giant Slalom Class n II Girls competition competition competition com com- petition on Saturday During Sundays Sunday's slalom races John Carpenter came in sixth In t the e boys' boys Class IV N race Gary Don Frantz placed eighth in the Class V boys' boys event and Jan an Watts was seventh in the girls' girls Class n II Junior Slalom race The other ten racers of the team included Tim OHara O'Hara who ran in the Class I Boys' Boys races Mike Hanley and Larry Carpenter Carpenter Carpenter Car Car- penter competed in the Boys' Boys Class n II races Cal Florence Joe Hanley Jeff Oc Tom Ma Mawhinney hinney and Mike Watts raced in the boys' boys Class III competition and S Scott c cot o t t Toly entered the C Cia Class 1 a s s IV N boys' boys races Laurie Anderson raced in the girls' girls Class IV com com- petition Gregg Goff GoU who fell and broke his leg a few weeks ago made the trip to root for his skiing skiing skiing ski ski- ing buddies The experience of competing in such an event gave the Park City Ski Club a boost in the right direction It also showed the parents who traveled with the club just how well the youngsters are doing and gave them a hand first-hand experience of seeing some of the other skiing events Consensus on the most ex exciting c i tin g event besides seeing four of the winning was the meter 90 Jumping competition where they saw skiers jumping over the foot mark They brought sleeping bags just in case they couldn't get beds and it was just the ticket for their over-night over stay in Steamboat Springs The youngsters youngsters youngsters young young- were bedded down in a room over the 10 local c a 1 police station with Joe Halverson as chaperon The results of this years year's racing events which the Park City Ski Club has entered inthe in inthe inthe the Inter Intermountain mountain a area are r e a has brought enthusiasm to compete This has hs been brought about by bythe bythe bythe the c consist consistent o n s i s t l n nt t support and coaching of Matt Alverez and Earne Anderson who donate their time in training of the racers The Park City Ski Club and the Park City Racing team will hold an squad intra-squad meet on February 24 at the Park City Ski Resort On March 10 they ey will again take to the road to enter the Mt Ogden races at Snow Basin Any one ne who wants to support the Park City Ski Club cando can cando cando do so by taking a membership membership membership member member- ship in the club You dont don't have to be a skier to join Ask any of the above named skiers and they will be more than happy to give you the information |
