J MILLS HEAR UE FROM I SON ISON ON London England February 15 1044 1944 Dear Mother and Father Our Forts went on another mission today to Frankfurt again All of my ships returned but a couple of them had bad several flak holes One day a a. crew returned minus one of the gunners He lIe was riding the ball turret when the door opened and he fell out out no no chute either On another raid one of at our most ex experienced experienced ex- ex gunners he must have had about 20 missions fell tell out of the bomb bay after the bombs had been dropped on Germany He had a a. chute on but no noone noone noone one saw It open as he passed out of view through the cloudS cloud He lIe was thought to tobe tobe tobe be unconscious from lack of oxygen When an accident like this befalls a crew the effect is rather demoralizing temporarily to the other members of th the crew I If by chance you can get hold of some licorice candy I would enjoy same I haven't had any ally liCorice since I left the states Bye Dye now until next time Faithfully VIRGIL fH TO Tn LEAVE LEAn FOR FOIl L.
