P AWARDS In 1922 the first Union Pacific pacUla scholarship awards were made to tot H 4 t Club members In the state of Utah Ulah At that time they were called the Carl Raymond Gray Oray Scholarship The first such scholarship to be awarded In Summit County was In 1923 The recipient was G. Kenney Warner r. n. e el l l 1114 f s 4 t. t tt etu 1 Four H our Clubs In th United States started otti officially l lY in 1914 when Congress adopted the Smith Smith- Lever Act and put the law Into effect Before Detore 1914 there were were some corn clubs potato clubs and some poultry clubs Through the years Year the enrollment and the project projects have Increased Now inthe Inthe in inthe the US U.S. there are two and a quarter million 4 Hers 4 In Utah there are nearly members There are arc clubs in the United States and Porto Rico H 4 has reached and been adopted by 76 countries around the world Summit County has had a very Interesting history as one follows the history of it year by year The first attempt at H 4 began In 1919 with S. S R. R Boswell as county county coun ty agent The club didn't go beI because because be be- cause of the lack of interest and I the newness of ot the work First Club The first club led by Edith WU- WU really got started in with 22 boys but was wasI I I withdrawn because of a conflict In enrollment or duplication of or work with vocational agriculture The girls clubs started in 1921 with five rIve members This died out because be cause ca cause se most of the girls left the area for the summer In 1923 one boy was doing club work I In 1924 Dave Sharp became county agent and had two two clubs started Ruth hod d seven members in sewing and Wilford Wilford Wil Wil- ford Clark a sheep club with five members j I I I I i a j I I I l I In 1926 a dairy calf calt club wasI was started in Coalville with eleven i I botis under the leadership of Erwin Crittenden Two girl clubs were organized at Oakley Mrs Evelyn Eveyn F.
