E the ball players went through the necessity of taping ankles hands and knees At Atthe Atthe Atthe the end of school the team met metin in the health room as usual for seeing the films on the game of ol the previous Friday 1 FTER TER studying the mistakes and arid and correcting them on the blackboard the team dressed I and 2nd went out to put those and l other corrections Into effect Everyone has to go through E his own specialty work on his own OTt time such as kicking passing passing passing pass pass- ing blocking and centering The practice begins and with it reaction drills and running plays and pass defense That Is followed by a light scrimmage THEN WIND sprints practice usually ends by pm p.m. Mondays Mondays Mondays Mon Mon- days are generally light work workdays workdays workdays days but are difficult because of the two-day two rest previous In fact a great deal of the talk on Mondays is about the good time and the sharp date you had over the wee week k end But by the end of the first practice of the week the coaches coach coach- es have put It into their heads about the work accomplishments accomplish accomplish- ments and sacrifices that must be made that week just as the last THE NEXT day Tuesday is when the gets down downto I to dead serious business The practice goes pretty much the I same as the previous day ex except except except ex- ex exI I Its It's tougher tougher run run everywhere everywhere everywhere every every- where you go This days day's scrim scrim- scrimmage m- m mage is longer and Its It's first string varsity against first string varsity which means bl Woody bloody ody noses mouths and hands twisted ankles knees and some broken bones Its It's sad that teammate must go a against g a Ins t teammate but its it's very necessary necessary necessary I sary to see the corrections In l work UA Y is a lot like Tuesday except theres there's no scrimmage e which makes it less fun than Tuesdays Thursdays I are usually the days when ev evI everyone everyone ev- ev gets butterflies for the I coming game the next day t Thursdays are days for loosening loos- loos ening up muscles practicing I kickoff and returns LATER THAT night the team i usually gets together at one of the we members' members homes to watch more films of the team they are areto to Play the next day But mostly f I they get together for just plain f J fellowship and understanding each other Each one makes up his fos own mind that he is not I going out on that field the nex next t day unless he Is going to give per cent of l himself The next morning he awakes from a sleepless semi-sleepless night t to o find that the tho pep club did an out out- p- p standing job on their own time that night decorating his house and porch with streamers and banners or signs saying something something something some some- thing to the extent of destroying the other team or orA A A Viking lives here here here- which makes him very proud and uplifts his spirits spirits spir spir- its lis and anticipation for the game BEFORE HE knows It zap zap he he Is out there on the field cutting loose with a smashIng smashing smashing smash- smash Ing forearm shiver or on the receiving end of one or else hearing the air belching out of the ball carrier as he buries his Ws helmet In his stomach Well the first part of the game the Vikings just weren't ready to play football Before th they y knew what happened Olympus Olympus 1 pus had two touchdowns one off of offa I a run and one off a pass E E after the thc poor Olympus player even cn c cn the thc referee for fur little together Ref Ref- Either Cither that or they arc out a jogging I BUT TAKING advantage of a recovered fumble just before half time the Vikings used It to advantage and drove to score with Nelson Hayes the bashing in for the touchdown and Don Hawkes kicking the extra point making the score at halftime 13 After making up their n minds to play football when they were In the locker room the Vikings took control of the second half completely Penalty after penalty penalty penalty pen pen- alty set drive after alter drive back but with about four n minutes left leftIn leftin leftin In the game and tough blocking by the line Alan Cleverly ran back a punt 75 yards to tie the score THEN THE tough riding de defense defense defense de- de took control and smothered smothered smothered ered a Titan drive Inside the five and blocked a field goal attempt with a vicious breakthrough breakthrough break breakthrough through the Olympus line by Charles Olsen With a littlemore little littlemore more ti time me and a few less penalties penalties penalties pen pen- the Vikings would have come out on top I I BT I 1 rt j 4 I 1 i Ui far fart AI af i L t ti iF 1 v 4 r rr r y r 4 r I Y rr r rk w F j k Ir f 4 j t r m 1 Tr r ke IZ J 1 oJ 1 1 7 I J I 1 i f. f ft t.
