Show I I Across The County 1 I Home Agents Agent's Desk Desh By Ry NAOMI N JES JENSEN EN Bonne Agent Summit County Pair Fair Is le over with forI for I another year And for those of Us who were working in the background it was wasa a successful Fair Of course coure each year we can see things we could have done to Improve It It and we try to put them Into Into into In- In to pr practice for the next year There were a great many blue ribbons given given In In canning baking sewing and needle work These women I know are thrilled with their ribbons They show that the work they entered Is of a II very high qu quality and standard The one regrettable ble thing about a fair though is le that many of us dont don't realize Just what points the different articles are Judged on and when we dont don't get a blue ribbon or as sometimes happens ared a II ared red ribbon we become discouraged and bitter We are determined to never enter anything into the fair ag again ln Sometimes our young people can teach us a much needed lesson In sportsmanship and determination One of our young 4 11 girls competed In the county demonstration demonstration demon demon- contest held the first day of the fair She had a II very good demonstration tion with exceptionally good charts Her far delivery was wae good But she lost top rating on one point point point-a a very Important point However she Is determined to come back next year with a better demonstration de de- de- de one one that will win her the State Pair aIr trip Such determination and sportsmanship is to commended And could certainly be be a lesson to many of us As long as 61 we enter articles in a a. fair for competition we must realize that they are to be Judged There is a score-card score in every Fair Premium Book that Is used as the basis for this judg judg- ing It is not alone on construction and as workmanship as many women think think- but how the article is le to be used the colors and color combinations how pr the article is In f tact fact ct everything Is le taken into consideration If we realise e that all aU points are considered we can learn from the Judging and better our work for another year And we can come comeback comeback comeback back next year determined to c carry rry off those blue ribbons Sweepstake ribbons were given at our Fair to several women In the county who entered some very worthy articles In Inthe Inthe Inthe the handwork Rada Maxwell of Peoa won sweepstakes on her crocheted table cloth Grace Jones of Henefer re received received received re- re sweepstake ribbon on the small rocker she had refinished the wood on and then upholstered Sadie Vernon of won sweepstakes In the baking with her loaf of health cake Wednesday evening I went along with the Clothing III H 4 Club of to see see the Seminar for Sallies held In Salt Lake City at the University of Utah The young girls from Utah Junior and Senior High Schools modeled the latest styles for teenagers An especial thrill was seeing Caleen Franson of Oakley model the suit she made for H 4 the H the theone one she will wear in the style revue contest at the State Fair Caleen also modeled a formal that she made In addition addition addition ad ad- to the nine of us from Coalville who attended 19 members and their leaders from Oakley were there Thursday the Relief Society organizations organizations organizations of the county held a trl-stake trl convention at Kamas Komas This This' is the first time that I h have ve attended attend one of these conventions I found It very interesting and Inspirational Those of us who work In the capacity of class leaders should be able to put over our lessons much better this winter with the help that was given I know know that I received several sevI several sev sev- sev- sev eral ideas Ideas both both in the work department department department depart depart- I ment and for the literature lessons Sometimes all we need is to get started working on a a. train of oC thought and we can think up several things that will help us with our le lessons lesions ons Mrs Haymond of the Ge General eral Board made this statement statement statement state state- ment that Impressed me You need to tobe tobe tobe be sold on your work Youre You're selling the program what program what would happen If It isn't good enough for tor your yourself to buy Many of you are beginning on that last lap of your canning Peaches pears tomatoes chokecherry and grape jelly jelly- pickles and relishes I love the bustle and the odors of fall faU canning And as aa I go around the county I find many tantalizIng tantalizing tantalizing ing odors coming out to meet me There are a few points to remember in the job of canning Any product you can will come out of tb the jar no better than when you put It in So select your fruits and vegetables carefully Uy at their best stage of maturity Variety is 1 also allo important Certain fruits are good frozen others frozen others are better canned If you make mak a a. careful careful careful care care- ful selection and follow all the best beat practices of canning your family will be bevery bevery bevery very thankful
