Show 1 I I I St St. St Marys Mary's Church i Notes Comments A- A I Sunday lest lat August 2 2 saw a record Attendance at masses In St. St Marys Mary's j I II Church While still below figures of August of at same some date In 1952 It Is le most mot encouraging to note the fine tine turnout I Amongst others was a contingent of Scouts from Camp Cloud Rim with with leader Mite Miss Joan Richards for whom transportation was conducted by Harry DeJonge Delonge to whom the parish Is doubly i Indebted Also came nine little campers From the YM YMCA CA camp over at Kamas This was their second Sunday Bunday visit having having hav hav- ing been brought over by an official from front their quarters on each occasion We are Indeed grateful for this attention I Ito to religious duty which Is of ot an obligatory obliga tory demand on all Catholics as laid down In the Third Commandment The church teaches that man Is a creature As a creature he Is bound to reverence obey and worship Ills creator The desire desire desire de de- sire for tor worship Is to so Ingrained In the human heart that every man must worship worship wor wor- ship something If he does not worship God then he will worship himself of ot a a friend or power or money some mater mater- lat lal thing Man will cease to worship only when he ceases to be human I Friday next August 6 8 6 Is the first of the month when parishioners are urged to come to mass maIlS and Holy Communion at 8 o'clock on that morning For sometime sometime sometime some some- time attendance has declined but we hope for a revival of interest In this day dedicated to our bur Divine Lord especially for all oil devout people attached to the spread of devotion to the Sacred Heart The nine first Fridays Friday's form an Immense Immense immense Im Im- im- im mense movement In most parishes Nowhere Nowhere Nowhere No No- where are they treated with apathy so sowe sowe sowe we would urge folks to come forward In numbers and give new life to a moat most religious observation which once was of ofa I a 1 more general recognition In our little church here I Friday also Is the anniversary of St St. Cajetan a noble and founder of the j i an order of religious men who In the Sixteenth Century performed marvels In works of charity for the poor I sick and Infirm specializing In hospital foundations to care car for thousands I stricken by the many plagues of those days This great order still flourishes In doing good and Its founder Is greatly I loved by speaking Spanish-speaking people for he was a son of Spain which has given so many Saints to the Catholic Church I. I I Sunday next August 9 8 9 marks marka the I Feast of ot St St. John Vianney better known as the Cure of Ars Are A very humble priest who changed a whole village once given up to complete Indifference of ot religion to a most religious little place named Ars Are some miles from Lyons In Southern France From there the news spread of ot otI this this Saintly pastor to every corner of France and neighboring countries the highest and noblest In the state came to todo todo todo do him honor But he would have none of It he just continued his care of sinners often giving seventeen hours a aday aday aday day to confessional work prayer and meditation Several books giving his life Ufe have been already published He died In 1859 since then his hla fame has become universally universally universally ally acclaimed as one of ot the humblest yet greatest saviour of souls for many a year In hundreds poor souls In distress distress dis dis- dis- dis tress came come for consolation to this amazIng amazing amazing ing confessor who not only heard their tales of ot woe but read their minds aright i much to the stunning surprise of careful careful care I care care- I ful penitents In his spiritual directions Many of these visitors had come from afar and were absolute strangers to him I iThe The town of Ars Are has today a beautiful beautiful shrine built by money from all over I Europe and America It Is a wonderful center for pilgrimages the church Is forever filled to capacity and services are held there all day long I have been to it several times and always came away thinking that this humble servant Continued on Page Two St. St Marys Mary's Church II i Notes Comments l I I I.
