for tor another year In the last issue of The Record rules I regarding the EucharIstic Fast were giVen given given en to our parishioners In this edition It would be well to have thrown on what the Catholic Church means by the Communion of Saints mentioned in the Apostles' Apostles creed and In pre baptismal rites as an article of faith to be held by all its members By Ivy the Communion of ot Saints is meant that there is a living union between the faithful on earth the souls in purgatory purgatory purgatory purga purga- tory and the Saints in Heaven It is Isone isone one of the most consoling doctrines of the church It sets forth the significant significant cant fact that the individual Christian is not Just an Isolated soldier of the cross but that he is intimately linked up with the legion of all those who under the leadership of Christ have won or are striving to win the crown of life In the Catholic conception conc of things the Communion of Saints Includes three classes First those who have fought the good fight tight have won and are crowned secondly those who have fought the good fight have won but have not yet been crowned and thirdly those who are still In the midst of the fray fightIng fighting fighting fight fight- ing until death against th the world the flesh and the devil These three classes make up the complete church The church triumphant In heaven the church suffering In purgatory and the church militant on earth Each class a separate segment in that one glorious brotherhood of all the redeemed Every individual be he In heaven on earth or orIn orin orn in n purgatory a living member of this supernatural family by reason of ot the fact that he possesses something In common common com com- com I mon with God divine life lIe The members of this union are called call ed ad saints because all of them have re receIved received received re- re grace in baptism and many of them have already died In that holy state and have obtained heaven Communion in the sense that Is used here means fellowship A fellowship is made lap up p of those who are united by some common bond The members of the Communion of or Saints are bound to together together to to- gether gather because they have the same Father Fath Fath- er In heaven God the same Redeemer Jesus Christ the same mother the church all those who are In heaven can be called saints in n the fullest sense of the word because they have died in the friendship of God and now enjoy the beatific vision of ot Him IUm Those in purgatory purga tory are truly saints because they have also allO died in the friendship of at God and although they still have punishment to suffer they are established in grace for ever The faithful on earth may not yet be saints but they still are destined to to this state they have all been called la in the Sacrament of Baptism Catholics In the state of grace belong to the body and soul of the church Catholics who have lost grace by their personal sins belong Indeed to the body but not to the soul lOul of the I church tor for they have forfeited their salvation and all claims to the fruits ol of the redemption The church on eart earth
