which we are about to enter A parallel may be drawn between this achievement of graduation and the founding and building of Utah The seed of the founding of Utah was planted in Nauvoo Illinois where the Utah pioneers were uprooted and pushed westward This seed continued to grow as as' the pioneers continued their Journey to their new home The seed of or our i graduation was planted In elementary schools where we required some little little persuasion from both parents and teach I ers to overcome difficulties The early life or the youth of the Utah movement was spent In winter quarters This youthful period gained nothing for the pioneers In the material things of life Ufe but In education and cul cul- cultural cultural cultural tural gains the pioneers were greatly re re- re warded In a like manner our youth was spent not in gaining of at material things of life Ufe but In gaining education and cultural guidance Also In our youthful days In high school we gained the most priceless possession of the ages friendship Selden once said Old friends are best King James used to call for his old I I shoes they were the easiest for his feet The friends we have made In I these school days shall remain In our memory for the remainder of our lives The Utah pioneers finally settled Salt Lake valley In 1847 they opened to settlement an area of boundless re resources re- re resources
