W Owen j Manager A Anderson n nde d e r s o on n Lumber Company South West Bountiful Utah Mr Owen has been associated with the Anderson L Lumber urn b e r Company for most of the years i of his life Ufe His early years of association were due to the fact that his father was a manager for Anderson Lumber in one of their Idaho yards MY FIRST check from the company came some 32 years ago after I had swept out the store and filled the nail bi bins ns and paint shelves he recalled I 1 continued working for them at atthe atthe atthe the Salt Lake City yard to en enable enable enable en- en i able me to finance my way through the University of Utah i iThen Then came world war II and i Mr Owen spent three years in inthe inthe inthe the arm army serving one year in Europe in combat as a field ar artillery artillery artillery ar- ar tillery observation pilot He was awarded the Sil Silver ver Star and the Air Medal before his discharge discharge discharge dis dis- charge in December of 1945 FOLLOWING his term with the armed services Mr Owen worked in the farm implement I and hardware business in Idaho He entered the field of education education education tion at this point moving to I Bountiful in 1956 to teach at atthe the high school Six of my most enjoyable years he admitted were vere spent working with the young people of this area However in 1962 Mr Owen again returned to the world of business as manager of the Bountiful store of Anderson Lumber Company 1 I believe that especially in our field of business he remarked there is a good future for our firm as Bountiful is certainly a city of fine homes and the most progressive and expanding city In the state This Is why our company has invested heavily in a new modern plant In Boun BOWl I and continues to develop I new land for homes WE VE HAVE recently purchased purchased purchased pur pur- chased land at approximately Uh South and East and arcIn are arc In process of oC development Mr Ir Owen was born foot Ida and attended elementary elementary elementary elemen elemen- tary and secondary school in Downey Ida He lie is a graduate from the University of Utah with a bachelors bachelor's and a masters master's degree HE HAS BEEN happily married married married mar mar- ried for 25 years to his wife Jean who was the girl next door They have three daughters daughters daughters daugh daugh- Elaine who is teaching at the J J. J A A. A Taylor School Jan a junior at Viewmont High and Cheryl in the grade at Bountiful Jr Civic organizations are high on Mr lr Owens' Owens list of activities He tie is presently secretary of the Bountiful Rotary Club a member member member mem mem- ber of the Mountain State Lumber Lumber Lumber Lum Lum- ber Dealers' Dealers to the Oakridge Country Club He also enjoys golfing and is isan an avid reader in the field of history COMMENTING COl on his business business business busi busi- ness and future business Mr Owen said In In my lifetime I have seen the lumber business progress from the small walkin walk- walk in type store to the large outlets outlets outlets out out- lets of oC today with expanded lines and encompassing real estate development construction fi financing financing financing fi- fi and other related ices I also expect many more changes before my retirement In its three quarters of a century of oC operation Anderson Lumber Company has operated on a a. a high ethical standard of business and it is my belief that only upon this type of busi- busi bus business iness i- i ness operation can progress be built |
