B Cook State Fish and Game commissioner was present as guest of the Club and spoke regarding the real economic value alue of the State Fish and I Game Department and the development of ot the natural resources r of ot the State of 0 s Utah with respect to hunting and fish fish- fishing ing Mr Cook pointed out that the deer hunt mint in Utah produced a n distribution of cash equivalent to about per pound for the deer doer killed for tor this year yeara a million and a half halt dollars were spent by deer hunters in the State of at Utah This money Is probably the most widely distributed of any money spent as it 1 goes for all types of ot classes of ot supplies and service There are at present in the State of ot Utah head and ond this year more deer were killed than were it In existence twenty years ears ago said Mr Cook The chief problem confronting the Fish and Game Department Is securing and allocating sufficient ranging ground for enough deer In the state to con con- continue continue and expand the harvest of the present hunt Deer hunting In Utah Is 15 especially attractive as compared to other states This year it Is estimated that more than one halt of ot the hunters see sec secured I ure their then buck i As to fishing in Utah this is a a. pro pro- problem problem blem which is not subject to any greater development than the streams of ot the state The hatcheries In the state of ot Utah fed ted tons of ot fish feed last year which Is illustrative of the effort made to develop fishing to the greatest extent In this state Further development of 01 good fishing necessitates a a. distinct change In our stream control methods Mr Cook also spoke regarding game birds in the State of ot Utah He pointed out that over-grazing over of ot our public and semi public range land has resulted In Inthe inthe the practical extermination of or the sage hen Tills This type of ot shooting has been benefited ben materially by the Introduction of the ring-necked ring pheasant in 1933 which at the present time has resulted in a satisfactory situation from the standpoint of or the hunter for tor a limited period A considerable amount of money has been spent by the State Fish and Game Department to develop Bear River Bay Bayas as a bird sanctuary In an effort to promote pro pro- promote promote mote Increase In wild ducks and other water fowl Superintendent H. H V.
