P Costas treasur secretary er of the Park City Mine and Mill Workers Union No 99 99 today advised Park Record that the executive board of the Union which Is composed cf fifteen members held a special ses ses- session sessIon session sion of five hours Wednesday night November 13 1935 The executive board meeting was called following orders Issued by the Park City Consolidated Mines to their employees to work a seven day week The TIle board entered into the problem from every angle possible and were duly pre pre- presented presented with tabulated figures of the I unemployed situation both locally and state wide they also entered Into the I life and general health of the mine milland mill milland and smelter workers through sound sta sta- statistical statistical statistical basis The board upon November 12 1935 Issued a letter which was approved by the membership outlining a program of employment for the Park City Mining district the letter was mailed to all mine operators In the district the board reaffirmed the position taken by the organization in this connection A communication mailed to G. G M M. I I Wiles general superintendent which was approved by the membership and of which no reply in writing was received was also reaffirmed by the board this communication requested certain ad- ad adjustments ad ad- adjustments adjustments of complaints filed In the theoffice theoffice office of the Union by employees of that mine The letters which explain the situation situa sItua- situation sItuation tion In detail are herewith published W W. M Wiles General Superintendent Park City Consolidated Mines Co Park City Utah Dear Sir In compliance with Instructions from the membership of this organization weare we weare weare are calling your attention to several complaints which require adjusting The first one Is with reference to working employees more than eight hours per day In this connection your attention Is directed to the Revised Statues of Utah 1933 Chapter 49 3 reading as follows The period of employment of workingmen work- work workIngmen workIngmen Ingmen In all underground mines or workings and in smelters and all other institutions for the reduction or refining of ot ores or metals shall be eight hours per day except in cases of or emergency where life Ufe or property Is In Imminent danger Any person who violates any of ot the provisions of this section shall be guilty of misdemeanor It Is the position of our organization that this law be strictly complied with and that when an emergency does exist necessitating ne the working of overtime that such overtime be paid for at the rate of time and one Your attention Is also directed d to the fact that men working under your so- so called Contract System are in many Instances working seven days per week Our Information is that men under your so-called so contracts the men are paid at a Do certain rate per foot advance with witha a guarantee of the regular dally daily rate of pay We Ve recognize such contracts as part of a speed up program with the company gambling that the men cannot make more than a days pay I During the life Ute of the Lead Code un un- under under under der the terms of the N.
