1935 3 SINCE OUR last scribble for column a jump was made to the north and the records former editor is now in the big city named above As usual for the past four weeks we are resting recovering rambling and restless afi a ai a AT THE present writing the intention Is to continue roaming around in this section ot of the universe until the end ol of the v week eek being unable to conjure up any further excuses for burning bu ming on c a relatives around in distant oil cities and imposing on the good nature of the junior member we will turn our lazy limbs eastward with the intention of getting back where we belong park city and work ai BBS R 5 AFTER A three weeks stay and a very happy and beneficial one from a health standpoint we left the home of dr and mrs at alhambra on the 3rd ard dinst yes of 0 course we left by bus our favorite mode or of travel for a change however we decided on the de cle limited which gave us two hours more ot of daylight sightseeing sight seeing and saving two liours licurs time in reaching our destination fi a fi a afi WE TOOK the coast highway and it Is a 13 how hour daylight ride noted lor for its various scenic changes and ocean views the cities passed through were ventura santa barbara san luls luis obispo paso robles san maguel mig uel king city biall Sall nas a santa cruz san jose and scores 0 ot f at other be smaller cities with continually changing landscapes it Is a ride worth while and intensely interesting a a A a s thursday being a bright clear day an exception and not tho the rule lor for san francisco we decided to take advantage ot of it and for lour four happy hours on a sightseeing bus with a distinct voiced guide the high spots ot of this grett great coast metropolis tro polis polls from the civic center and from high hilltops hill tops w were ere seen and explained and viewed with wonder vonder and the keenest ot of interest unlike los angeles san francisco is confined to a comparatively small area and not scattered over a hundred miles or more and from what is known as twin peaks an altitude of 0 feet a most magnificent view blew of all of san nancisco can be viewed together gether t with the cities across the bay were clearly seen by the writer and the other interested te tourists comprising C om the party on this occasion afi fi a 99 a n AMONG THE scores of magnificent structures pointed out and explained dalle alle driving slowly lowly a through the civic center ol of san FT francisco were the exposition auditorium which seats persons and representing an expenditure ot of two million dollars the beautiful public library and state building costing more than a million and a halt half the wonderful wonder lul city hall h all the tit I 1 dome ot of which rises feet in the a air ir representing four million the opera house and war memorial erected at a cost of more than six millions s A V a a A STOP was made at the mission dolores built in 1782 by father Juni gunipero pero serla serfs much ot of this structure is in its original state and contains many relics of the very early days ot of spanish call lorn lans ians and in the cemetery adjoining are burled buried many noted characters of centuries ago then through the residential reelon ti al section ot of beautiful homes and I 1 magnificent gardens then viewing the th many beauty spots in the 1013 acres ot of golden gate park the playgrounds tennis courts the bowling green the wonderful aquarium the temple of music musi c and other n noted spots too numerous to mention ta of course a stop was made at the cliff house to watch the antics ot of scores of seals on seal rocks the sutro baths the worlds largest indoor swimming tank etc etc a a a THEN ON to lands end which overlooks the wonder golden gate with its tamed famed flagpole which now marks the terminus ot of the lincoln highway then lincoln park where is located the legion ot of honor with Us its many treasures of ancient tapestry paintings and sculpture lincoln park Is the site where the california worlds fair was held in 1915 some ot of the structures ot of this great exposition are still standing and in service then a stop at the presidio Pre with its fortification hidden and otherwise and the handsome homes ot of the officers all combining to make an interesting te ter round ac ac ac OF COURSE the immense piers and towers of the great san francisco oak land bay bridge were ere viewed from different I 1 points with keen interest friday when crowing crossing the bay to oakland it was our good fortune to see the stretching I 1 ot of the mat first of tour four small steel cables each ai 21 inches in diameter spanning 2310 feet between piers nos mos 2 and 31 3 marking the first actual connection between the next towers on sunday last piers I 1 and 3 2 were connected and as stated by the san francisco examiner for the first time san francisco was i able to have an actual glimpse of v what hat the bridge will look like the tunnel on goat island which will hlll 4 be part of 0 the bridge Is nearing completion lon ion and a long stretch ot of trestle work Is completed on the oakland side ride in f 1937 this longest and biggest bridge willi be opened tor for service it to la planned by san ban francisco franciaco Franc laco to celebrate this great event in 1938 by having a world exposi tion W a R ig a a 5 WE READ viewing the different sections of that busy city the most agreeable feature of this little s dc trip was a rids rida out to shattuck evenue avenue where tor for the past months gimmle condon a former well known park city boy Is conducting a grocery store at that number jimmy Is on one a of those sterling dependable young men whom it Is a pleasure to meet for several years he was engaged in the grocery business in san francisco and did a thriving business but the depression gradually got the upper hand so he recently bought out cut his brother micky and decided to try oakland lie he is in a good location and hopes lor for good business he Is in every way deserving of success and his many friends hope it will come to him the meeting was a mutual pleasure he spoke of the plea su reable recent visit at his home of mr and mrs bartly mcdonough and made inquiries of other park city friends ir lends I 1 a a ii a IT IS restful and interesting to cross the bay as it affords an opportunity to pass between the big towers of the big proposed bridge and to get a close up of the immensity of the great project now being abeln pushed rapidly to completion so saturday we crossed over to berkeley the home of the great university of california heie we did nothing but leisurely stroll through the beautiful grounds and wooded byways by ways of that great institution ution of 0 learning we went to the top 0 of f the tower where a wonderful view of the immense grounds the beautiful ti ful u buildings and wooded ravines and gardens cardens can be seen we walked around the hearst circle seen the great california memorial stadium which seats people walked by the wonderful eucalyptus grove noted the beautiful surroundings of the home of the president d en t of the college and marveled at the beauty and variety of trees la in different I 1 sections of the grounds it was a long walk and a rather strenuous one for an old fellow but he be would not have missed the solitary thrilling
