tour four days and a halt half to get by bus f from rom L laurel au rel mississippi to chicago where I 1 r registered egister ed at the hotel morrison Morr lson saturday Y night at 6 p m I 1 merely mention this fact to show that I 1 am moving toward h home 0 m e a at t a slow pace traveling I 1 only durf during t the he day in order to see where I 1 am going and what the country looks like that I 1 am passing through I 1 lay over here there slid and else elsewhere here at nights to no note t e electric displays etc in cities and to rest up lor for journeying on the next day that Is the pleasure ot of traveling if one Is not in a hurry and in our case it I 1 Is the constant urge ot of loved ones to tak take it essy easy and I 1 am complying thereto in the fullest sense cense I 1 1 AND we are as strong as in the begin beginning ning of this outing tor for motor bus traveling under the above circumstances with but few minor very minor exceptions the highways from mobile on the gult gulf of mexico coast to chicago are paved and the buses in the south are all large commodious speedy greyhound vehicles and from omana omaha west they will be the big buses ot of the union 0 n pacific so it is always easy riding with expert drivers and on several lines in the south with porter service on each bus between cities so you get service a la Is pullman THE LAST sunday spent with mr and mrs harry E and their son harry jr was thoroughly enjoyed as was the sunday previous by a mile automobile trip this time driving to mobile alabama and mating making a circle back to biloxi mississippi by way of pascagoula Pasca goula and going across the great bridge spanning the back bay in that section then driving again along the coast to gulfport Gult Gulf port stopping at the tamed famed buena budua vista hotel at biloxi for dinner and viewing with keen interest the many beauty spots and famed places ot of gull gulf of cf mexico coast cities it was twelve hours of ct constant pleasure and delight lor for the lour four radions as was the entire twelve flays days and nights ot of dads stay in mississippi AT THIS season ot of the year thousands of 0 visitors from all over the country go to mobile to drive over what Is known as the azalea trail in february and march the beautiful azalea flowers are in lull full bloom in this section and ana the trail Is a flower lined route of changing istas through mobiles residential and aubur j ban towns on which more than azalea plants varying in size fro in biall small ones to bushes eighty feet in circumference display their brilliant and gorgeous colors imagine it you can great masses of scarlet crimson pink and magenta flare up against their natural settings ot of dark green live oaks and magnolias the effect la is beautiful dazzling and stimulating this trail Is some eighteen to twenty miles long and must be seen to be lully fully appreciated THEM WE visited the lamous famous gardens ot of the south known as the bellingrath gardens these are located twenty two miles south ot of mobile on fowl river or as the french brench named it isle aux oles a private estate of mr and mrs walter D bellingrath it Is claimed to be the largest and most beautiful gardens in the entire south we were told originally it was a semitropical semi tropical jungle of 0 magnolias bays dropped live and water oaks pines cedars holly and dogwood the natural beauty of the place has been vividly enhanced by azaleas and dexterous landscaping and transformed into a glorious garden which challenges description WE ENJOYED a long stroll through these beautiful gardens but for variety and floral grandeur they do not compare with gardens visited in vancouver british Colum columbia bla a few years ago when on an auto jaunt with other members of the family I 1 I 1 THE ONE day of heartaches and sincere regrets was as lost last tuesday the day when hen we deemed it necessary to conclude visit with the i loved doved ones of laurel such a happy twelve days such a joyous visit with the beloved little family amily such pleasure in meeting splendid citizens of laurel and devoted friends of mr air and mrs airs such happy chats of loved ones now separated by many hundreds of i of home lif life ewhen when all were to I 1 gether in long ago days such happiness because of having dad in laurel again after years of absence such pride and love at seeing such an ideal home life of son and daughter and grandson such unlimited joy in loving and being loved by little hurry harry jr such happy hours in playing with him and in having baying his little arms around our neck in loving embrace all had to come to a temporary end and good byes were said eald with dimmed eyes and forced smiles and alon came again with only loving mem I 1 crift to cheer and comfort as the days go on with the usual routine such Is life sunshine and shadow for us all ASIDE FROM the constant pleasure and loving happiness of the brief visit was the more mom than satisfying realization of the tha popularity high esteem and un I 1 mista keable friendliness and I 1 loyalty 0 Y al t y in in I 1 which mr and mrs are h held e 1 d in the community where for the past nine years they have made their home THE RIDE from birmingham north over all paved highways and through rich agricultural country la Is an intensely interesting one so much to attract attention te and please the eye at this time of the year however a traveler misses much beauty because of tho the lack of green and natural growth along the way th millions of trees passed are r stark find and leaness leafless the vast fields millions of acres many plowed and planted are absolutely barren of any growth not a solitary toll tary patch of green la is seen and whre whore flowers bloom in beauty and abundance in season Is now just bare soil and this to to a lover of nature mature and natures bounteous growth of varied loveliness la is missed true one does not suffer from heat best this time of the year but he misses much in natural grandeur LARGE apparently prosperous oua and r always busy cities axe u passed through in every state at stops an opportunity Is given to stroll along some of the principle streets and note many elaborate window displays etc etc BEFORE REACHING chicago stop oveis were made at louisville kentucky and indianapolis indiana at these big cities every spare moment was put in rambling around and sightseeing sight seeing at indianapolis one ol of the most beautiful sights imaginable at night Is the monument place circle here Is located the indiana state soldiers and sailors monument universally admitted to be the grandest achievement of architectural and sculptural art in the world designed to glorify the heroic epoch of the republic I 1 and to commemorate the valor and fortitude of In dianas soldiers and sailors in the war of the rebellion and other wars THIS magnificent monument was begun in 1887 completed in 1901 and dedicated in 1902 the cost was the height of the monument Is feet on the north and south sides are immense bronze figures representing the army and nay on the east and west sides are said to be the two largest groups that have ever been carved out of stone represent ent peace and war other immense statues cut out of blocks of stone surround the monument on the cast and west sides of the feet plaza which surrounds the monument are magnificent cascades over each of which flow gallons of water per minute and at night with eight immense ca candela dla bras brag carrying 48 watt lamps and SO 30 flood lights make the monument place the most brilliantly and beautifully I 1 lighted spots in the country you must imagine the grandeur of this scene my pen and bra utterly incapable of giving the faintest description of same I 1 IT WAS my pleasure to go to the top of this monument reached by 32 flights 1 steps it if you walk but I 1 took the tul rul panorama of indianapolis and vicinity fortunately it was a clear morning and the view was simply wonderful then tor for an hour and a halt half I 1 all by my lonesome wondered around in the baso base ol of the monument where many hundreds of war pictures and war relics are artistically arranged it was thrillingly interesting and then on to chicago AND SATURDAY evening I 1 landed in this small village after dinner wondered around to again get my bearing tor for it Is some tew few years since I 1 was here too early la in the season tor for sightseeing sight seeing wagons however to be in operation and as tar far as the worlds lair fair grounds ground are concerned they are closed tighter than a drums head and all I 1 could see ot of the place w A here the fair air Is held was fr from 0 in the 11 tower of the morrison Morr lson hotel i however I 1 put in a full day S sunday rambling around where fancy dictated and riding in various sections of the city on two story buses a drive along the shora of lake michigan and a stroll through Lincol ns park etc but as I 1 I 1 raid aid be before f ore its too early and a bit too disagreeable tor for part park activities or any other kind of outdoor out door enjoyer enjoy enjoyment tr and today monday we ar are e having ft a sencw storm here TIM THIS AFTERNOON OON monday I 1 am going out to aurora a few miles out on the elevated to call on mr and mrs laddle laddie who now make their home la in that city it will be a surprise v visit isit and undoubtedly afford some pleasure lor for them to seo a somebody from the old home towns town WAS disappointed at receiving no mall mail train home while in big city of 0 high buildings and low criminals they I 1 say no news Is 13 good news and I 1 hope it holds good in thin case THE ONLY record I 1 have seen since leaving home was the issue of march 9 while at t tho the home of the day Boy la in thill instance I 1 am m sure eure I 1 missed some good reading and of far more interest to me mea than contained in all the th big Rad dons baby sister and then well will inform yea wu later THIS MONDAY the chicago and vicinity had a young buzzard blizzard all day snow and cold and wind and generally miserable to say the least notwithstanding a the bad weather however we boarded an electric train this afternoon for a forty mile ride to aurora illinois and made a two hour visit wl with th mr and mrs laddle laddie whose home has been in that city tor for the past tour four years they were more than pleased to see uncle sam and uncle sam was mor more than pleased to see them these well known young utahna have a cozy apartment and are as happy as larks mr has steady employment Is hale and hearty arid and weights better than pounds mrs enjoying good health but not as robust it as when in utah but oh how both ot of them crave to get away from the middle west laddle laddie expressing his contempt tor for the section he Is now in as follows 1 I would not give a small back yard in utah for the entire state of Illi illinois noks both he and wife are native utahna and are ever loyal to their home state it Is quite likely they will be I 1 in n utah some time the coming summer perhaps to remain laddle laddie has a good position w with ith a big steel construction company a as s draftsman he says the first thing he looks tor for when he gets his chicago paper Is the financial page to see the prices 0 ot f metals tor for like all utahna he Is acx anxious lous for higher and staple prices tor for silver copper etc because high prices tor for these metals mean greater mining activity and greater mining activity means ra eans greater demands for men in his line of work before the slump mr was wag with the A S R people at garfield as draftsman and drawling drawing a big salary A welcome awaits you folks when herx you return home AND BY the way at the home in aurora this afternoon ve me were cheered by seeing a copy of the record of march and modestly blushed at the nice things said about dad by friend
