Show harmonious meeting strike avoided the park city mine mill and smelter workers union no 99 hold held its regular meeting at elks hall last saturday july with the largest membership present t than han tor for six months past throe new members member s were added to the roster the 0 outstanding standing ut feature ot of the meeting was VMS the report ot of the negotiating committee recently named by the union and which had been holding meetings with the management ot of the silver king coalition tor for three weeks past discussing wages working conditions etc on friday july mr R C jacobson government mediator ot of the national labor board called president P M peterson and secretary J A of the local union to come to salt lake city to make arrangements tor for a meeting to be held saturday morning with the officials of the silver king coalition company at their offices in the kearns building in that city and a meeting tor for 9 aa a in saturday was arranged present at this meeting were R C jacobson government mediator fl P E morris federal labor compliance officer ot of the NIIA james robinson secretary treasurer ot of the international ter union ot of mine mill and smelter workers thomas kearns president W mont perry vice president and managing director M J dalley general manager M 0 heitzman general superintendent con onell oneil general foreman and james ivers treasurer ot of the th sliver king coalition mines company together with it a committee of seven representing the park city mine and mill workers of union no 99 the meeting saturday morning was called to order by mr jacobson president P M peterson was spokesman tor for the park city union and mr W mont ferry tor for the silver king coalition and ft a discussion followed lasting more than three and EL a half hours both mr perry ferry and mr peterson stating their sides frankly and fairly coming right to the point without any unnecessary preliminaries and handling one question at a time A general discussion often ensued on several of ct the questions raised on both sides the best of feeling prevailed throughout at the close of the three and a half hour lour session mr jacobson commented reely freely and enthusiastically on the friendly discussion and complimented both the employees and employers on the able manners in which the questions were presented and discussed declaring am emphatically it was one of the best and most satisfactory meetings he had ever attended in his official capacity he gave it as his firm belief that if such discussions cus were conducted in future conferences feren ces as was held on this occasion he was convinced both employed and employer could settle their differences satisfactorily to all concerned without resorting to any drastic action mr ferry submits questions at the close of the meeting mr ferry was asked to submit questions involved by his company in writing in order that they could be presented to the local union tor for its approval this request was complied by mr ferry the questions submitted follows dear SITS sirs complying with your understanding on supplementing our letter to you of the dinst you are advised as follows j ithe I 1 the management Is willing to abide by the bargaining and negotiating provisions of the both as to spirit as well as to the letter of the law 2 while the management will not discriminate against the men who do not choose to belong to the union it does lully fully realize that employed emp loyes who are union men may be properly chosen as representatives of our workers hence the management Is willing to meet and discuss with them at reasonable times matters ol of mutual interest 3 the management will accept individual assignments from wages for union dues due and lines to a reasonable I 1 limit limit per month subject to revocation of I 1 such ch a assignment by the individual concerned 4 the management Is now at work on a wage scale plan which Is designed to automatically regulate wages in accordance once with company receipts from sale of f pro product duct and hopes to succeed in working out a feasible and satisfactory arrangement ran gement the matter Is somewhat involved hence requires considerable time A report concerning the question will be submitted to your committee not later than august and as much earlier as Is practical yours truly W MONT FERRY the officers and committee of the loal union have labored hard to gain these points with the mine management tn in order to avoid a strike in this district and feel well repaid for their efforts now it Is up to the rank and file of this local organization to make the park city mine and mill workers union no 99 one of the best organizations in the state and the writer feels asro assur red they will take advantage of this opportunity the new entertainment committee are now real busy laying plans tor for a HOT TIME IN THE OLD TOWN on labor day and expect to pull off a huge celebration on that date signed J A recording secretary |
